What do I have to do to a 400EX to keep up with a Raptor on the road (high speeds)? and how much would all this cost?
thanks

If the Raptor is stock a simple sprocket change can give it the same top speed, but if they change their sprocket your back where you started. Lets face it-fully modded 440EX's are putting out less than 50 hp. A Raptor can get about the same power with a pipe, filter and jetting. There is no replacement for displacement. However you can only go as fast as the road will allow and if you gear it right you should be able to stay close-but it will take you longer to get up to top speed.

A pipe and pipe filter and proper jetting add 10 HP to a Raptor ?? Holly $h!t !

you'd be surprised man, Has anyone else noticed where it says 50HP under the Trinity pipe for the raptor in dirtwheels, I'm assuming that means with filter and jetting.

umm, no.

that is wrong. People/companies will lie to get you to buy the product, man.
Dont believe everything you hear/read. A pipe and jetting will not gain a Raptor 10-15 RWHP.

Common sence...

ps. A raptor has about 26% MORE HP than a 400EX. Is the Raptor 26% faster than a 400EX??
HELL NO. The 400 is lighter, its nearly as fast, with 26% LESS power.
A 50HP 400EX (440, 460 ect.) will absolutely spank a 50HP raptor.

I've seen more than one manufacturer claiming 50HP on a stock Raptor with a pipe, jetting and airbox mods. We'll find out for sure in next months Dirt Wheels. They are doing a pipe shoot-out for the Raptor.

Mr350x,
you are only considering the hp and not the torque. The raptor would be 26% faster if the torque was decreased but of course it would take it probably a mile to get to top speed. A 50 HP 400ex probably would spank a 50 HP raptor at least for the first 100ft or so but after that the raptor would catch back up and pass given enough distance. This would be because the 50HP 400ex would still be close to a stock torque setup i.e. stock transmission, gear ratios, etc...except for the somewhat increase torque you get from going to 50hp. The raptor is setup so that it has torque and has some top speed to boot. For example, a 130hp car vs. a 200hp car would top out at nearly the same speed given that the 200hp car has more torque to get up to speed faster than the 130hp car. If you want to fantasize though and all things being equal a 50hp 400ex vs. a 50hp raptor in my opinion the 400ex would win by a nose, simply becauce it is 25lbs lighter and that would be the only reason if both motors had the same torque and the same HP. Now which one can you increase the HP more on? and which one will handle better? Hmmm... maybe I should consider dropping my raptor motor into a 400ex frame!? Would that be a crime?

I am in no way a pro in physics or mechanics so if you disagree and can prove it, let me know.

Intelligent replies only please! Don't waste mine and other people's time by posting my quad is better that your quad BS.

For about $500-550, you can buy a nitrous kit (15-40hp extra)and spank all the Raptors you want on asphalt.

If the 50hp Raptor and the 50hp 400ex retained the same power and torque curves of stock machines, the Raptor would still spank the 400ex...even though it's 25 pounds heavier. This Raptor is said to have the broadest torque curve of any atv. THis is why the Raptor still runs with a C-dale and DS, even though it does'nt have the peak HP.
