hey i have a 89 300ex and im Trying to put new rear end bearings in but i cant get the akle nut broke loose and it is really ticking me off so if anyone could tell me what i am doing wrong please do thanks for all ur help![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif[/img]

 

Most likely there is thread locking compound in the threads. Heat up the nut with a torch until you JUST BARELY see a curl of smoke coming off it, shut off the torch, and get the wrench on it while it is still hot. That should do the trick. Try not to overheat the nut, as it is possible to weaken it with excessive heat.

i'm sure you've already tried some type of penetrating oil...blaster or Wd40?

heat it up with the torch...carefull not to get too close to anything non-metal or painted!!!

put it in 1st. gear...and put a BIG pipe on the end of the wrench, and push.

sometimes tapping the nut with a hammer will break it loose too...don't tap too hard and round it off. and bang on the end of the wrench

I'm having trouble getting my axle lock nuts off my 98 300ex also. The bearings almost locked up so the carrier is probably bad also. I went to Sears yesterday to try to buy the 45 and 56 mm wrenches, but they don't sell them that large. I have a pretty well stocked tool box, but nothing that large. Service Honda wants $60 for just the one 56mm Honda tool/wrench. What tools have you guys used? The manual seems wrong, it says that the axle nuts are LEFT hand threaded, and to turn them counterclockwise to loosen them (when standing on the right of the ATV). This is backwards, a left handed thread would be turned Clockwise to loosen. Can someone tell me the correct direction to loosed the axle nuts?

The threads are left hand & if it has never been apart before it can be a bear!I use a pipe wrench on the jam nut and (don't remember the size)a large wrench that I bought at tractor supply for $10. on the other.If you are sitting behind the quad pull the nut towards you to break it loose.Good luck.

 

Same thing happend to my 250X, we heated it up with a torch and it did nothing, so we cut it off with a di grinder, the heat from the torch weakend the axle and a few weeks later it bent up bad on that side.
