What is better for mostly trails? I am also 15 years old, 5'10" 160. Will the 400ex be too powerful?

I'd say get the 400, a 300EX is too underpowered, while a 400EX is something you can grow in to. Is this your first quad?

I agree with ltracerx get the 400EX. You won't have to trade up. So just start out right to begin with.

I say get the 300. I have been riding 11 years going on 12, and the 300EX doesn't feel underpowered to me. You guys are comparing a hi performance to a sport quad. 281cc to 397cc. The 300EX obviously isnt as powerful. But how often do you really use the power on the 400. I never use all the power on my 300EX except when I am going up to this one jump but thats it. And when I am on the trail and need to turn around, I love the convenience of reverse. Even if the system is a little complicated at times. I know you 400EX guys think you don't need reverse and you can just pick up the front end and bring it around, and thats true, sometimes, but what if you are in the mud or what, are you really going to get off and turn it around? Didn't think so. So reverse does come in handy at times. So anyway I am trying to say, get the 300EX, that is unless you are going full throtle all the time, then I say get a Raptor or Cannondale, or DS650.

If you need reverse, get a Raptor. Oh yea, a stock 400EX isn't all that powerful either, and it's nice to have that little extra "oooooomph" when you need it. Well, just go test ride both and find what best suits you, but I can almost guarantee the 400 will be better for you.

I'd say go with the 400 ex, you have quite a bit of power to show off but not enough to hang with no 660 or banshee..... its up to you

Even with it being your first quad, I still say get a 400EX. I can guarantee that within a month you aren't going to like the 300EX, and will just have to trade it in on a 400EX or something else. Also, being 5'10", I would think the 300 would feel small.

Neither 300 or 400 are that powerful but if I had to choose between the two it would definatly be the 400. Sorry 01TRX300EX but i think your just jelous that you dont have a 400. After 12 years of riding I think you should want more then a 300EX !?!?! Anyhow yamtt125 I am 5' 6" 140 and the 300EX feels like riding in a clown car, lol. Since this is your first quad you won't be missing reverse since you ve never had it B4. Good Luck, GET THE 400 !!!!
