86 switch to 88-89 swingarm (250R)
#1
I'm curious, about the swing arms on the 86 and 88,89 HOnda 250R fourtrax. I currently have an 86 and was wondering what the difference is between the 86 to 88 or 89? Is one longer than the other? Would I want to get the 88 or 89 swing arm over the 86 I currenly own?
Thanks

General2,
The 88-89 swing-arm is shorter than the 86-87 to give it quicker turning. It depends what kind of riding you do, if you do a lot of big hill climbs you may want to stay with the 86 swingarm. If you race or ride tight trails, then you may want to go to the 88-89 swing-arm.
If you do change swingarms, you will have to fabricate new rear motor mounts, because the 86 mounts to the swing-arm, but the 88-89 mounts to the frame and the swing-arm is solid in the front.
Good Luck,

Don't forget that the rear linkage is longer on an 86. So you'll have to get a new dog bone. You will most likely have to revalve your rear shock too. Good Luck.
It might be easier to just have your 86 steel arm shortened by 1 1/8th of an inch.
