This is more of a reply on the longevity of Honda engines and not TRX 300's so bare with me. My brother bought a 85 250sx about 7 years ago. He was 13 and maintenance and care were not his highest priorities in life. That poor atc has been to hell and back. That thing has been sunk, buried, rolled, drug, and dropped more times than I can count. Between him and his friends trying to find out how hard you have to hit a tree before your teeth fall out or the simple lazyness of not ever checking much less changing oil, you would think that thing would be rusting in a dump by now. Ahhhh but no that darn old piece of junk still runs like a top. The compression is still the same as if it was new and it hits 55mph no problem. This is not in anyway justifing that kind of maintenance schedule but if those Honda motors can run after something like that I would have to think long and hard about buying anything else.

Nick,

All foolishness aside and knowing that your model does not include an hour meter, change the oil and filter after every five tanks of gas. And clean the air filter after every ten, more often if you ride in dusty areas.

Another inexpensive item you can add to help your engine last longer is an inline fuel filter. They are cheap, easy to install and will help keep trash out of the fuel system. Many a carburetor has failed due to clogged jets that were the result of dirty fuel lines.

Ride safe.

Moses,

I have got a 92fourtraxx 300 4x4 and a 99 300ex and both of them haven't had the oil changed in them yet i think though im going to sell my 300 4x4 and get something else cause its kind of old. OR I MIGHT JUST CHANGE THE OIL. but there is nothing wrong with it but im going to drop it off at a honda dealer and get the carburater cleaned and get the oil changed and parts that it needs like a new rear fender.

I thought i should share this with u guys. My friend a mere 300+ pounds had an 86 honda 200 sx. the quad never recieved an oil change, spark plug, or the chair being oiled. he used to start out in 3rd gear, put it in first but holding it up, re3ving it and droping it down. when he got rid of it there was no plastic left on it, it caught fire once so we drove it in a lake, pulled it out with my 300, pulled it down the rode and fired it up and when he sld it got 500 bucks, and it was nearly dead.

For one thing I say get a Yamaha Big Bear. Secondly there is NO WAY ABSOLUTLY NO WAY that you have run that machine on the same oil for 7 years! One either you ride it about 2 weeks out of a year or your dad has been helping you out and filling the oil up for you. Also I say get a Big Bear I have come to like them more than 300trx's anymore!

Nick to answer your question, yes you can, but if you want to spend $$$$$$$$ well then go ahead, you need to order some ATV mags, like DENNIS KIRK, to check out the options, the most likely thing you could do is chabge the exhaust, but rarely do they do much for your wheeler except make it louder, anyway good luck and change the oil.....

Summary: Rabid brand partisanship; disdain for other brands; mildly euphemized profanity.

RangerSX I can say that I also own a 86 quads. It still run really good and will haul my **** everywhere I want it. I didn`t even change any bearing, any chain. Only oil and a I have to get me a new batterie. I can`t say that it`s faster than a magnum 500 thaugh because it`s geared alot lower and does not have the same power but I still enjoy riding it. By the way, I`m talking about my yamaha moto4. But I still prefere riding my 95` 400 scrambler. I agree that honda have a long life but so does other brand.
