Cold weather starting
#2
I've never experienced life in an icebox, but I know on a cold morning ours is a little tricky also. One thing that I've found is not to use full choke. It never seems to want to fire that way. I pull it about 2/3 out and just bump the throttle asit begins to turn over. This works great here but - 20 celsius? Brrr................
Good luck!!

The trick that seems to work for mine is to start it with full choke. Then go back in forth from full to none at about 3 second intervals. You'll be able to tell when to let off and when to give more by the idle. I have to do this for at least a minute to get it to run on it's own. All the Recons are cold blooded, but once they get going, aren't they little bats out of HELL!

I had one but traded for a y2k Kodiac and am extremely pleased but the Honda was a good bike, although cold blooded. As another guy mentioned, you have to manually work the choke back and forth. When it starts to die, give a little more choke and then let off. As you know, it takes about five minutes. Even the Honda dealerships and magazines say they have trouble starting. But the good side is that they don't run hot, thus longer engine life.
