I am putting together my 250r motor, but I cant get the crank to seat into the main bearing (left case half). Clymer manual says to take it to a Honda dealer and have it done w/special tools! Is that really necessary? Lots of people work on these motors and I can't imagine that everyone has to take it to the dealer for this....PLEASE HELP!!!

heat the case at about 200 degrees in an oven. put the crank in the freezer for about an hour. get the case nice and warm, and the crank cold, and try it again

I've never had to heat them but remember buddy that the case will be hot and will burn the $hit out of bare hands. I usually keep the crank in the freezer overnight. But the results are all the same in the end.

Make sure your bearings are lined up and seated properly. I had that problem when i was installing the transmission, cause a bearing wasn't all the way seated.

Thanks for the tips. I will try freezing the crank first. If that doesn't work I will also try to heat the case. I bought a set of brand new Honda cases with all new bearings already installed. The seals are also installed, so I am afraid heating them up will ruin them...

200 degrees won't hurt them a bit.

IT WORKED!!!
Crank in freezer for an hour.
Case in oven at 200 for 5-7 minutes.
Wife thinks I am a freak.
But my bottom end is now together!

THANKS
-Addict

PS - 200 degrees did not appear to hurt the seals...

How much did that cost from Honda? I have to crack my case and I am wondering if it would be cheaper just to buy the set up like yours where it is already apart........
