Just talked to Fay Myers Motorsports in Denver and they said that the Z400 will be available in early May and the price will be $5699. They let me put a $500 refundable deposit down as well. This is good news, as it seems like it takes forever to get a new model actually on the showroom floor. Price seems fair to me.

Well that's great news on the price but bad news on the availability. I was counting on an April delivery not May.

I see you have an LT400 on order too, are you concerned at all with it being the first year out and all?

Not at all. The motor has been in production for quite sometime and is a proven performer in the DR motorcycles. The chassis looks to have great geometry and good ergos. The biggest difference to me is that it's liquid cooled. Much better performance and reliability compared to an air cooled motor. Air cooled motors are old news. In my opinion the motor should be bulletproof. We'll have to see about the rest of the quad when we get some seat time.

It is true, Suzuki did their homework on the DR-Z to make it an XR400 killer. With the extra time that they had to tinker around with it to put it in a quad, it should be bulletproof. The same could not be said about the Quadracer when it first came out...hehe.

I am very interested in the Z400 also, but remember that a lot of transmission changes had to be made to put in a reverse gear, not to mention that everything else but the engine is new. I'm a 2001 Raptor owner, so you'll understand why I'm gun shy of a first year model. I want the Z400 to be the greatest ATV out there, then I'll buy one the next year :^) . All of you guys who buy one the first year keep the rest of us informed...

Take care,
Lorrin

I, too, am a 2001 Raptor owner... I have yet to have any tranny problems. It is a small comfort to know that we can stick a 2002 tranny in our machines, though. Also, after I piped and Pro-flowed my Raptor, the bad gearing from Yamaha has less of an effect on riding it fast...
