Is there a special tool to fit the teeth on the front shocks of a 400ex? Also, how do you know what setting you need?
Thanks in advance.

You should be able to pick up a spanner wrench got it from Dennis Kirk, Your local honda shop, or Rocky Mountain ATV that'll fit. I also know that the one off a polaris will work.

long CRAFTSMAN screwdriver and a hammer...craftsman so when it breaks you can take it in for a new one. just don't miss cause it'll tear up the paint

take the weight off the quad and use a channel locks on the lower suport .....works perfectly Hint (I use black tape on the teeth of the channel locks to stop scratching)

See http://off-road.com/atv/suspension/shockadj.htm for suspension adjusting procedures. You should adjust your shocks preload to get the proper ride height (20% sag in front and 30% in back). Don't neglect your rear shock either, especially if you are a heavy rider!! The rears are also adjustable for compression and rebound damping (see your owners manual). I have about 6 different shock adjusting wrenches, and no one of them fits every bike.

Thanks YZGUY. I had no idea there was that much to getting the proper settings. That link is very informative. Everyone should take a look at it.
