Chain and Sprocket Combo
#1
I am getting ready to start putting the finishing touches on my 250R rebuild, and decided to go with a new chain and sprockets. I will be riding MX 98% of the time, so I want something that will last. I have been pleased with my Renthal RS3 520 0-Ring chain, but it's a little on the expensive side($86) RK makes an O-Ring 520 that is around $43, so I'd probably go with it. Anyone have any reports on this particular chain? My Renthal has lasted 2 years, and the sprockets are worn, so it's time for something else.
As for sprockets, I was planning on going with SideWinder's "Super Stainless". Does anyone know how much this sprocket will cost me? How does it hold up? I've heard that it was indestructable.
Thanks for any replies, and other ideas are more than welcome!

If you can find an o-ring chain for $43 by DID of RK good luck. Find out what the strength of the chain is rated at. All of the DID and RK o-ring chains I have seen start at around $65+. I used a Renthal chain one time it was a ORN and all 3 that I got we had problems with. I have read here about people saying that the sidewinder chain and sprokets were over priced and did not last any longer. You are talking about saying money on a chain but you want to by the SS sproket. I don't know the cost but it has to cost alot. I have found that the sprokets from Sproket Specials steel front and rear will outlast just about anything and they don't cost much. Don't buy alumium, a steel will last 3 times longer and any alumium one.

<< Yeah, I've heard that advertisment too. I was just wanting to get some opinions, but I guess if the posts aren't about a Raptor beating a DS, nobody cares.. right? >>
Actually some people I know who run them on there quads said that too. What a company says about it's product doesn't mean $hit, I wouldn't post it if just the company said that, I am talking about people who actually own these.

Killer250R, the two statments you made are straight out of DirtWheels. Granted, you might have heard it from other people, but I was simply saying that's what SideWinder has in their ads.
tprender, Moto-man.com has a DID 520 O-Ring for $49.99. No, I wasn't trying to "save money on the chain and pay for overpriced sprockets". I was simply asking if the RK was up to par with Renthals.

If you believe everything that they say in the mag's, I have some good ground to sell you. Also, a lot of the items that they ad to some quads when they fix them up is junk, but they put them on anyway gbecause it was given to them free or ?
If you can get a RK chain for $49 that is a good price and I have never had a problem with them. Mailorder places can sell items sometimes less than what the local shop can buy it for. The only thing that it will do is to kink up when cold, but you run it for a few min and then you can agust the chain if needed. I race Hare Scrambles, about 15-20 per year and I can get a full year out of a chain. The Renthal ORN chain is the only chain that I have broken in 15 years of racing.
There was a person the other day saying that he payed about $60 or $80 just for a front Sidewinder sproket and it was missing a tooth after only a few rides. I have heard to many bad stories about that company and the quality of the products.
