It al depends on the tires. It's suprising what a sport quad with agresive tires on it can go through

The ground clearance is way too low to even consider serious mudding.

Add that to no reverse to rock back and forth, and you are stuck.

What Quadfather said is true, but with the same tires on both(I have a set of 22 inch sur-tracks for each quad), I feel more comfortable going through a mud pit on my 400ex than I do on my recon. There isn't a huge difference in ground clearance between the two. Sure, a 4x4 (or quad with 25+ inch tires) will be better, but with a sport quads light weight, high power, and large amount of wheelspin, you can get through alot. Many times i've gotten the "oh crap, I'm not gonna make it!" feeling, but then got out just by rocking it back and forth and side to side. Keep in mind that i'm just talking about the occasional mudhole, and muddy trails, no swamps or anything. Biggest thing i'm worried about when I go mudding on my 400 isn't how i'm gonna make it through the mud pit, it's how i'm ever gonna get these clothes clean again!

the only problem i had with the mud is when i got stuck in between the ruts. other than that the stock tires work great!
