Is the 300EX better the the 400EX
#13
I have had both, my 300 was bored 4th over, pipe, 14T, shocks,350X rear end, and some other mods. I had this when the 400 first came out and though that my 300 was as good as the 400 in the woods and in the straigh fields. After about 1 year of getting beat by the 400 at every race in the fields and in the woods. I sold the 300 and bought a stock 400 and it was much eaiser to ride and much faster everwere. I now have a 440 kit and many other mods. And I am sure that just about any new quad that comes out this year might be faster than my 400 and easier to ride. Althouh I think that my 440 is the best quad on earth at the present time.
The 300 was a good quad 10 years ago, but not today. If Honda had any sense they would drop it, if they come out with a new quad. The 300 from ready others people's posts it is just a little bit better than the 250ex from what I read.

so the 400ex is about 1000 more than the 300ex. well your point is that you could spend that extra grand to make your 300ex "better" than a 400ex. Here is how i look at this.
With that grand, you could put and engine kit in it with all the fancies, and yes, you would have a faster quad and a straightline, if that is your defination of better then yes, your 300ex would be better. However, without aftermarket shocks, a-arms, axle and many other accesories you would not be able to keep up with a stock 400ex on the track or probably not even through the trails. it would take probably close to 2500 i would guess to make your 300ex as good as a stock 400ex. But then you know what happens next, then the 400ex gets a 440 kit and you are right back where you started.

Here is an end to your original statement.
I spent much less than you did on your 300EX.
I can blow away a 300 or a 400 ex..........
I BAUGHT A 1996 250R.
Actually you left out several things when you
made your statement of the 300 and 400.
What is your weight?
I had a 300ex and loved it, but it was too small
for me. I'm 6'0 215lbs. I got tired of bottoming
out the shocks and getting whipped by my friends.
Although, i wish i never sold my 300ex. It was one
heck of a durrable machine. It allways started and
ran well. It would be nice to have a spare quad for
my family or friends, and that would of worked well.
But, i was almost going to get the 400ex back in 2000.
Untill i found a 250R for about $3k. So, i figure for
myself, since i ride aggressivly in trails and a really
tuff moto-track, the 300 never would of cut it for my
abilities or thirst for air! lol
Any Honda is good in my book. Im getting ready to buy
a 4x4 next.
So, basically it all depends on your weight and riding
ablility and riding area. If you have any Honda...you will
have fun and won't have to wrench as much as your friends
with other brands. Thats what makes me feel so good about
owning Honda machines. RIDE HARD BUT SAFE...if you can.

Come on with an extra 1000 dollars you can make it compete with a STOCK 400EX. The 400EX is one hel of a quad i'd love to get one but for an extra 1000 ill wait 4 more years and get one. For now my 300EX is fine fopr a 5'8 150lbs boy so is any of you have good info or pics of any honda sport quads i'd love to see them but any honda atv is a good atv.
