416EX keep up with Raptors?
#1
Hey guys,I can get a 416 kit,TC drop-in cam, porting, and the bore for $780. Its from Hetricks racing. He does good work.
Now I was wondering with the 416 kit and 16/36 gearing could I smoke or keepup with a stock Raptor? How bout a piped one?
I wanna pull up to a Raptor and say,hey man I just got this 400ex,and I wanna see what a Raptor has against it (the Raptor riders down here think there God,and are the baddest mugs around),so when I see them kinda laught,i will race them. And then have a smile on my face cause Ismoked them!

maybe a stock one but not a piped one. i am just a little faster than a stock raptor (i've raced a million stock raptors and all the same result) i hate to say it but the 400 isnt the quad for dragracing, the 416 will add alot of torque and make it excellent for mx but i dont see you beating a stock raptor.

I can hang wheel to wheel with a stock raptor with my IMS 440 with stock cam.
This was before I rejetted. After the rejet, I know it is slightly faster because my clutch is slipping more than ever. (Stock clutch) I have not raced my buddies raptor yet after the rejet.
So, A 416 with a cam should at least keep up with a stock raptor.

edit) Billybadass, I hate to say it, but when my 400 was completely stock I would beat my buddies piped 86' 250R untill he was in 6th gear, then he would creep by.
I would kill that bike, now. You must have more work done than your profile lists in order to be keeping up with raptors. So, what do you have done?

i bought the quad a year ago and havent looked into the engine yet. the person that sold it too me said it was 20 over. i have a esr pipe and silencer and thats it as far as i know. my friend has a stock 400ex and a 416 400ex (with no cam) and i kill both his quads. we went to the track last year and i went on my r and he had his 416, i ran a 1/8 mile of 9.610 @ 68.17mph, he got 10.061 @ 64.66 mph. and that was with my old pipe and silencer now i can do better. i have never had a problem with 400ex's but lt250r's are another story (them things haul ***). from what i've seen 400ex's are hard to get a good start (short swingarms = wheelie launches)

These guys are full of crap, I have a 2001 400ex with jet kit K&n filter, rev kit, geared with sprockets, white bros slip on , with air box top off the raptor can only get me on top end !!
Now I'm getting a guy to put the 416 kit in with cam and new jet, he said it's gonna smoke raptor's.

maybe if the raptor driver isint very experienced..... you will call me a liar, but then when you race you will see. Im not saying it wont make your machine a ton more fun, but your just not going to beat him without more mods. Every time I race a raptor on my friends 440ex, I take him off the line then he pulls on by very slowly in 3rd gear.
