I own a C'dale and the rumors you are hearing about reliability are false. The early models last hear, the FX400 had some recalls. The new C'dales have a new fuel injection system and new computer, made by GP, not cannondale. That has solved some other issues they had with last year's model. You're going to have a little bit more maintenance with the C'dale just because it has fuel injection, (change the fuel filter often, 5 minute job), drain both crankcase oil and transmission oil, they are separate unlike most quads, but this is a good thing. And to get to the air filter you have to remove the front plastic, 5 minute job. I currently own an '86 R modded to the hilt, on my second cannondale, and did own a raptor that was modded to the hilt. The raptor is now gone because of the C'dale, say no more.

Hey bansheeboy2k1, you're correct if all you are interested in is drag racing. But most quad riders do other things like race, dune ride, jump, etc. There is no other quads that handle better than the 400EX and the 250R. The Yamaha's are alot heavier, especially the Raptor than the Honda's some 70+ pounds over the R. I'll take equivalent power, put it in a great handling quad, and weight reduction by 70 pounds any day over just souping up a quad for drag racing!!

A 440 kit and pipe does wonders. Jet the carb just a little rich for heat purposes. 158 main seems to work good. Now about the cannondale. Don't they use their aluminum frame as an oil tank. That would worry me, rocks and aluminum are not good friends. I think I would probably crack my frame and loose all my oil, it's my Murphy's Law luck. If I'm wrong I'm sure you will let me know. Thanks

Just take one look at the Cannondale frame and you'll get your concern over it not being strong enough answered.

I'm sure the frame is very strong, but a large rock at 40mph is probably stronger.

I don't believe I want to ride anywhere there are going to be that large enough rocks to break my frame at 40mph! Again, it's not a weak point, go look at one and talk to some people who have seen the frames at the Cannondale HQ's that do stress testing on a daily basis on these frames, you will then not question the strength of the frames.
Besides, what's the difference between that and that same rock at 40mph ripping a hole in a radiator or cylinder/motor on a 400EX? So are the radiators/cylinders/motors weak points, well yes using your logic.

K_fulk,

How do you like the edelbrock carb? Hows the HP gain?
I was thinking about getting one for my 01 400ex. Is it really worth the money?
