hahahahha i laughed at this one....a rock at 40 miles an hour will wreck any quad...think before you post!

The carb is great once you get it dialed in. It made just as more of a differnce than a full pipe did on mine.It make the bike a little more two store like hit when you take off. I dont know what it will do with a stock motor though. Probbly not as much of a gain but if your going to do motor mods eventually i would suggest it.

I'm not talking a boulder, I'm talking about those ever present bowling ball sized rocks that pop in from nowhere. So yes I did think before I posted. Did you think of all possible sinario's before you responded? Yes 40mph may be a little fast, but even at 10 mph, that can cause a world of hurt to a frame.

I'm surprised no one replied to this. Do you have a more reliable way to measure speed (GPS perhaps)? I would be EXTREMELY impressed at a 440 that goes 92. The one I rode had more top end than mine, but not anywhere near 92. My 400 does about 67 (measured with GPS). If your 92 is accurate i sorely underestimated the 440 kit. Or at least I underestimated the kit with piston, carb, cam.

You don't measure power by speed!! Gearing is everything!!

i would go to hereto get a engine kit. then get a ported and polished head. time in advance key . rev box. then jet it . take the choke out of the carb only thing is it might not crank when its real cold. a pipe (full) from curtis.

This is for everyone,
I heard that the 416 kit will out do a 440 in in a drag race becasue the piston is lighter than the 440 and lets the engine rev faster. Either way for the the guy who posted 400ex upgrades i would go with some kind of displacement kit, high compression piston, cam, port polish, full exhaust, new rev limiter, new carb, and after market filter with air box mods.(I wouldn't punch it full of holes unless you are in the dunes or just race in on a track)

The reason a 416 might rev slightly quicker than a 440 has nothing to do with the piston weight. There's less than a 20 gram weight difference. Hold a dollar bill in your hand to understand just how light 1 gram is. You're nerve endings tell you something's there, but you can't even feel the "weight".

A 440 will have it's power peak sooner, and if a large enough cam isn't used, it will be unable to breathe at higher rpms. Assuming the correct sized cam is used, a 440 will make more power than a 416, and do it at a lower rpm.

The stock EX cam is undersized to begin with. A larger, higher compression motor will only make that issue worse.

edit- spelling..

Hey aklem64, you said it in your sig.

"There is no replacement for displacement" (exept for a turbo)

I raced what I believe to be a 416 up comp hill at Glamis with my 440 and took him by quite a few lengths.
Just wish I had the Zilla that day though........

Wow, this is one of the more "amusing" posts I've seen in a while. Lets see:

538 feet in 4 seconds is equal to 91.7 MPH. That's got to be a world speed record for a 440ex.

"hes right, get a 440, or a trick 250r, and ul kill a piped banshee anyday in the woods..."

"just take the yamaha's too the track or woods and you'll beat the crap out the shee with no problem and if the raptor doesnt have a real good rider you will wipe his *** also"

Boy, I never get tired of hearing THAT argument.

Listen, you can modify a 400ex to pe pretty fast but it will never keep up with a Raptor, Banshee or DS-650. Those machines have WAY more potential. Besides there is NO HONDA EVER MADE that will "kill" or "beat the crap out of" any Banshee. Sorry guys. If you want power and speed and TRUE HIGH PERFORMANCE you have a few choices. If you wan't a nice fun little SPORT quad stick with the 400ex. Besides, in tight woods a 400ex handles better.
