help adjustin valves on Rancher
#1
Well i know have 750 miles on my rancher and i have lost a few steps.....(lost power). I think it's time i adjust my valves....don't you I checked out TexMudders site and i'm pretty confident i can do it myself. I refuse to take anything to the dealer. I have a couple questions.
First, which is the exhaust valve and which is the intake valve? I figure it would be obvious once i get the cover off but want to make sure.
Second, his instructions say that you will be able to pull the gauge out but not put it back in. Does this mean the valve will spring down(open) when the gauge is removed? Also how much effort should it be to pull out the gauge? Should i be able to slid the gauge around or have to strain to pull it out? I know this sounds like an absurd question but i have seen things that really seem stupid to do but are actually standard proccedure on engines.
Thanks for the help fellas. Tomorrow is going to be 60 degrees so i hope to get it done then.

The exhaust valve will be the one on the side the exhaust pipe is on, intake will be toward the carburetor.
I always adjust my valves (timing mark on TDC, of course) by screwing the adjusting screw down until I cannot move the gage at all (called locking it down), then backing off the adjusting screw until the gage is movable with slight resistance. I have always been able to re-insert the gage with a little bit of resistance.

well that is a very tricky process that i really do not know how to answer but my suggestion is to call your local honda shop and ask for advice and go with it and just use you own judgment im sure it will work out

I got them adjusted the next day. I was kinda spooked when they knocked pretty bad when i first started it up......then my buddy informed me that the oil had to be picked back up...shewwww. It runs fine now. It will even wheelie again. A friend of mine showed me a trick to pull better whellies with it.....put your knees on the seat and you don't even have to pull on the handlebars Can't wait to get a Big Gun performance kit from Highlifter.
thanks for the help fellas
