my 85 atc 250r won't start, It sat all winter and it started fine and I rode it about ten min then I was putting real slow around the yard and it satarted running like it was stuck in high gaer, it would not get the rpms up, then it died and won't start. I have replaced the plug, and did a spark check and it has a nice blue spark. then I took the carb off and cleaned it out and replaced the gas in the tank, checked the compression and stil nothing. It will back fire once in a while if you kick on it a long time, could the wire harness be bad, or the carb. anyone have any simular problems, I have gone through everything I can think of, is there somthing I am over looking? any info may help

make sure your choke is not on, on those trikes choke on is up on the carb (a little wierd) if it got warm then it wouldnt start back up and may foul the plug. Do you see/smell gas on the plug now? If that dosent work, pull start it.

Air filter good and clean? Pull off your fuel line and open up your valve, does the fuel flow OK. Might also try removing the spark plug, pour a small amount of fuel in the cylinder, reinstall plug and see if it fires, if it does, my guess would be a fuel flow problem of some kind. Carb good and clean, float stuck?

no stil won't start, cleaned the filter, then pulled it around the yard and all it would do is backfire once and awhile, doesn't even sound like it wants to start. So I took the reed cage off to peek in the cylinder, slowly turned the kick, and you could see and hear gas fumes spraying down from above the port, I could not see were it was exacly coming from. is this normal? or could the rings be bad, the compression was 120, and that is the same reading I got last year after the motor had about 3 trips to silver lake on it(not sure of gauge acuracy, it was a $20 special) so does anyone have any Ideas? I was thinking about getting one of those esr-cr500 ignition kits, that way I will know it is not the ignition. what do yo think?
thanks for the info

120 is way to low, time for a rebuild it sounds like. I put on the new ESR ignition, it's expensive but now my quad's electrical system is bullet proof!!??

What is the right compression on the 250R? I shattered the piston in mine and am in the process of removing all the little metal chuncks I can find rattling around. I have been using WD40 & PBblaster & just kept working the crank and slowly picking them out. Is there anything else I can do?
