Well my friend is plan on powder coating his 400ex frame, a-arms, and swingarm A shiny Blue and he wants to know how hard it would be to do it. Like what im trying to say is take off the engine and stuff would it be real hard? ANd about how long would it take? And how much money would it cost to make it blue?

Ahh, blue. Pretty!
Taking the engine out is a snap. For me, it was all the OTHER stuff that was a pain. Take out your carb, airbox, pipe. Then unhook everything from your motor. Then just unbolt it, and pull it out.
I got my powdercoating done for free(sponsor), but I have seen some places do it for as cheap as $175, and others charge up to $400.

Blue huh??? Like the Raptor frames?
A stripped down frame is a lot of work. Take a look at everything that is attached to your frame and think what it would take to dis/re-assemble all that. Also, it would be a good idea to mark what bolts and what wires went where. Don't try to do it from memory.

I'd like to second everything everybody has already said. I have done this to my 250x frame. It took a friend and me roughly 3-4 hours. The easiest way that I know to do this is get some zip-lock bags and label them according to the part. Re-assembly is basically an easy jigsaw puzzle.
Another thing, anything that can melt can not be powdercoated, like a-arms that do not have the removable bushings and joints.

I agree. I did a complete teardown of my R, and I am STILL finding bolts.
I had everything powdercoated on mine. Tape up all your splines, nuts and bolts. Plug all holes. The powderer should have plugs. Once you get that done, you're set to go. Tape off your bearing holes too.

Amen to that. After this rebuild, and doing a crank-up rebuild, there's not much I don't know about my quad. After putting 5th gear in backwards, and having to completely tear my motor down again, I feel confident in the 250s cases.
