Besides looks, what is the reason for cutting the front fenders?

I'm not a racer but I would have to say that the obvious answer to me would be to cut down on the wind resistance. You know like swimmers shave the hair off their body to "streamline themselves" I suspect that is the answer. I don't know for sure maybe somebody who races can tell you for sure. The shaved Fenders do look pretty cool though.

yes...stream-line would have been my guess. But, considering all other factors when racing, I would not think that little bit of wind resistence would make a difference...I could be wrong.

I think it's more a question of visibility. When you're going through the whoops, or you're in the air, you want to be able to see what's underneath you, when you're going to land, and what you're going to land on.
In MX racing I don't think areodynamics play a huge roll.

I cut my fenders becuse I want to see the tires. I like to see them when I'm cornering close to things. In a race a few inches to close to a tree and it can make a big differance

These guys are right. 95% of the reason is less wind resistance. I know it doesn't seem like much, but fenders can be the deciding factor on what gear you do a jump or whatever it may be. Less wind resistance equals less back force, allowing you to go slower, and jump longer.

Seeing your tires and shock action is pretty cool.. I dont know if it helps anything or not but... Whatever!!

Tire placement i sone of the biggest reasons to cut your fenders. We race on a bike mx track so it tends to get rutted out and you want to now where your tires are at all times.Helps to spot your landing on big jumps also.

some people also cut their fenders for less weight.

I just enjoy watching the tires and suspention in action!!! Especially the ultra wide A-arms on the Zilla. It also looks awsome, in my opinion of course.
