250R SHIFTING PROBLEM.. HELP!!!
#1
I got the R back in one peice yesterday, and took it for a spin. Everything worked for me then, but today, when I got on it to put some more time on it, it had a big shifting problem.
Going down into 1st is not a problem. Going up to 2nd and on from there is. Mostly every time I hit the shifter to pull it up into another gear, it acts like its hitting neutral. Ex: 2nd-3rd, big miss right in the middle, then I hit the shifter again and it popped up into 3rd. It will go through all 6 gears, so I don't think its a problem in the transmission. Sometimes it will shift like it's supposed to, and sometimes it won't. The problem is REALLY annoying me.
If you guys think you know what it is, click HERE then go to SHIFT DRUM to see a ServiceHonda picture of the area that I THINK is the problem. Number 9, 12, and 14 are the culprit.. I THINK. I made 100% sure that the transmission and shift forks were done right, so I don't think that's the problem. When I disassembled the motor, the number 14(spring) was backwards, with the number 12 inside the shift drum. When I looked at the Clymer, it was different. The 12's were to the outside. So, I put them out, and now it won't shift correctly.
Do any of you have an idea what it could be? I HAVE TO HAVE THIS DONE BY TOMORROW NIGHT! Thanks for all your help.

When I redid the transmission on my R, I ordered all my gears and shift forks from service honda. Well on one of my shift forks there was a bur that wasnt let it fully engage or something like that. Luckily my mechanic caught it before we put it all back together but we had to use a dremil and buff that burr outta the shift fork. I dont know if this is what is happening in your case but it could be. I am not saying nothing bad about service honda though they have unbelievable service and prices. I still go through them on everything. Well I hope this helps some!
