I have only ran across this once, and it was by accident.
We had an '70's model Kawasaki 4 stroke dirtbike in the shop a few years ago and it had been upkept. It needed a muffler and the OEM one from Kawasaki was discontinued. We ended up ordering a universal one from some company. They offered 2 stroke and 4 stroke types, but yet they looked the same in the picture.
It came in and we modified the bracket so that it would fit and when we fired her up, she sounded LOUDER than it did with the rotten stock muffler. We called the company and figured out that the box was mislabeled and they sent another one the next day. We put it on and it sounded about as close to quiet as you can get with an aftermarket exhaust.
Soooooo.....the two stroke silenser IS louder, but it sounded like crap and we didn't ride it to see if it gained power or not.
Sorry I went into such detail, but I never want anyone to think that I would even suggest installing a two stroke silencer on a fourstroke..LOL
Besides, if it had a good sound and if it added power, everyone would be running them.

Hey KNOWSALOT I don't remember Kawasaki having a 4 stroke dirtbike from the 70's. I almost lived in the Kawasaki shop in the 70's having three Kawasaki 2 stroke bikes from that era. Two disk intake, side carb mounted (175, 250) and one below the frame piped 250 motocross.

KNOWSALOT,
That's something that you said those years 78-80. It was about that time period when I got into working 7 days a week so dirt bike riding was out and so I decided to try street bike riding. My first choice was a Kawasaki 500 that had black expansion chambers installed on it. Wow, when that 3 cylinder machine was wide open it was such a rush with all the smoke spewing out the pipes. You really did dust the others riders back then. I got dusted though when a Kawasaki 750 2 stroke showed up though.

Oh yeah, those two stroke triples would scream. If not for emissions, there is no telling what those bikes would have evolved into. Back then Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha were into the two stroke street bike wars in a big way.
Have you ever rode the KZ1300 in-line 6 cylinder bike?? Now that's a rush.
