Rancher vs magnum 325

Andrew Thomas, I think not. I know for a fact that a 400EX could smoke a Scrambler. Your brother must not be riding it very hard during the drag race or something. I've drag raced a Scrambler 400 already ('95) with a '93 Honda 300EX, on the road. They were neck and neck off the start and then after that the Scrambler was only a quad length ahead the entire time! At the end the 300EX would catch up on top end, and my '98 300EX I have now is faster than that '93 was! Unless Polaris added more power to the new Scramblers, there's no way the Scrambler 400 will beat a 400EX cause I can't touch one of those with my 300EX. And remember the 300ex and the scrambler. Close! And no I'm not joking, this is the truth. Also, I don't see Polaris catching Honda any time soon in sales, not with the Rubicon coming out and the awesome new Ranchers. Plus the dealers sell 400EX's before they get them in, I haven't seen one in a showroom for a long time now. There's still a waiting list for them where I live.

Atv Four Wheel Action Magazine Says that Honda ATV's have the smoothest shifting trannies of any atv's.If you think the Polaris Xpedition tranny is the best out there you have never ridden a 250R or a 400 and 300EX.Try a Recon tranny once,it makes the Polaris feel Junky!

Did I say it was THE best? Did you see ANY other brand mentioned? Did I make ANY comparisons? Show me where I said I thought it was the best out there. I spoke for one machine and one machine only. I am not one of those who thinks they are the expert because they have seen two or three out of the hundreds of thousands of quads out there. You may say "it is the fastest quad I have seen", or "it is the smoothest shifting quad I have ridden". But to qualify yourself as an expert based on limited personal exposure....nah.

I was at a polaris dealer a few weeks ago, and saw a manual shift 425. I asked the dealer if it worked like a honda, he said I may be disapointed if I am used to the way a honda shifts.( meaning smooth)I asked him how the polaris shifted, and he said good, but not smooth. Then he asked if I've ever ridden a Harley.............

I think the 5-speed Polaris is a good thing, is still have friends that have to shift, which is cool with me. Personally after owning both auto and shifting i could not go back to shifting. but it is up to the individual. Polaris will really gain more ground now for sure. Have read good things about the new 5-speed Polaris.

Rooster & Ranger,
1st, Ranger I should not even reply to you since most of posts look to be written by a 15 yr old but for you & Rooster my Scrambler does beat 400Ex's and "only" loses to Banshees by about 3 lengths. Maybe the '95 was in need of a rebuild I mean that is 5 yrs on a 2 cycle. I don't know what to tell you guys, the 400Ex is no "killer". It doesn't matter who rides it. The 400ex still gets beat & my bro's isn't the only one. It's a great quad don't get me wrong, but in a straight line not all that impressive. If you look at my sig. it does say with mods. Albiet only $300 worth. I don't know maybe someone snuck a 400 motor in that 300EX frame because my 2 friends have 300EX's that aren't much faster than my gf's Trailblazer.
Also don't bet that Honda will be #1 in sales because of the 400EX. That's hardly what most people are buying. If you want to be #1 you've got to dominate the utility market. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

The Scrambler 400 & 500 don't have much trouble beating out a Yamaha Warrior in a drag race, I know this because I have seen it, heard it, and dragged against a Warrior with my 500, and although I haven't seen it in person I have heard numerous owners of Warriors & 300EX's saying that the Warrior is faster.
That Scrambler should have beat the 300ex. I am not saying it didn't beat it, because I wasn't there and you were, but I am saying it should have. Could have been rider or machine error.
I think the 425 is a smoother shifter than Honda's comparable 4x4 machines. But the one I rode (very briefly) was brand new, so maybe they get worse with time? I think I even read somewhere in some magazine that they thought it shifted smoother than a Honda.
I think it's good to see Honda updating their 4x4 system. However, in the mud, I don't want the one with the most traction pulling, I want both pulling. Because two is always more traction than just one.
