anyone run high octane fuel in their 400ex???????

i was wondering....what are the pluses and minuses to runing higher octane fuel (110+) my dealer told me not to go higher then 110 . but if anyone is tell me what the difference from 87 or 92 octane. and if i do chose to run around 110 would i have to do anything to the jetting or anything like that?...thanks

If you still have a stock motor you will be wasting your money. Do run 92 or 93 in the stock motor. If you ever do run race gas, you will find that you might even have to rejet from different brands.

When you are talking about JUST the octane rating it is simply a numerical rating in relationship to its resistance to detonation. The biggest myth about octane is that it will burn slower or faster depending on the rating. This is simply not true (http://www.cs.uu.nl/wais/html/na-dir...line-faq/.html). Another myth is that a higher octane will give you better gas mileage. This might be true to a very small degree with cars because some models have a knock sensor. This allows the car to retard the timing when detonation occcurs. I don't know of an atv with a knock sensor. Higher octane will resist detonation with higher compression engines. Some race fuels have additives that cause the fuel to burn faster or slower, but it definitely is not the octane rating that is responible.

so i shuld just stick w/ the regular 92 like i have been using???

I run a 50/50 mix between cam2 and regular high octane pump gas. The advantage I have seen is mostly how clean it burns. Also easier starting. You have to look at spark plugs differently due to the lack of residue on them. Where you see the heat change on the electrode determines if you are running lean or rich.

I like it but it is expensive. you might see a mild performance gain but not much. You have to weigh the cost with how your plugs look or how hard your machine starts. Also your machine will run hotter with these high octane fuels.

ouch..that one hurt....i hate having to stop for 15 minutes in the middle of a long cruze through the dunes because it is running hot ....i thing the higher octane is more trouble tha its worth...ill probably just stick w/ 92
