I have never owned paddle tires before and know nothing about them. My 400ex is all stock for now and I like to ride at Little Sahara, Ok. I need good traction for the hill climbs and I also like to rip around the trails that surround the park. So I was wondering which tires you guys run or which you think are the best(not the most expensive).

yea ,I am in the same boat,"up a dunes with out a paddle"I been doing some research an they tell me that a 4 stroke needs smaller paddles {meaning the hight of the paddles}kends sells a trekker in a v blade that is the cheepest an I think I am going with them about $ 64.00 per tire in a 20*12*9,but I have a set of stock wheels extra in my stash. You can get 8 or 10 inch wheels with the honda bolt pattern if you want also,I called a few dealers an ask that too. With a 2 stoke with the "hp" you can go with a skate 2 witch has the deepest paddles but you also can spin then alot faster that's what they told me {makes sence} good luck

Well, I'm no expert, but My brother had an 89 warrior, and had a bigger cam, probably ported a little, valves,, and a k&n filter, and he ran sand skateIIs and it ran really good. I know the 400 could pull the sand skateIIs. My problem would be the price, the GBC Sand shark looks to be about the same size in the magazines. They say that the v paddles are best for trails and allow the quad to slide easier, but I'm not sure that's it's much easier. Hope this helps. I would get the bigger sand skateII size paddles for better traction, the 400 has plenty of low end!

God bless,

Jason

With the torque your 4 stroke puts out, make sure you get a good hard paddle. Most of the people who run at the dunes here in Utah run skat-trak haulers. I know they run a bit more, but you get what you pay for. Dont go with the "edge". A friend of mine had them on a warrior. The torque you guys can get from a 4 stroke peels the paddles back and they tear or wear out quickly. You should be able to turn an 8 paddle hauler pretty easy. you would be better with a vulcanized paddle than a molded one I would think. Just my opinion. For some of the best prices around, look at www.rockymountainatv.com
Hope you find what your lookin for and enjoy the dunes.

400exy2k- Just got back from Little Sahara 2 weeks ago (Weekend of 2/19). I have been there several times. I run sand sharks 20x11x8 on my 400ex and so does my brother. They work great and are not as expensive as the sand skate. You don't want as big paddle on a four stroke as you would on the 2 strokes.

Don't spend the $ for the front sand tires. Just run the stock and you will be fine.

SAND SHARKS 20x11x10
I think they are great! I have them on my 400ex and my buddy has them on his Warrior. We both like them very much. They are also the least expensive I have found. The quality is NOT lacking in them.

I also have the GBC Sandsharks on my 400ex (now w/440kit). Went to Little Sahara last year and plan on going back this April. The sandsharks are a good tire for the price. I have 20x11x10 which work great.

I rode a '00 400EX with Sand Skate II's at Glamis and it worked fine. The 400EX was stock except FMF exhaust. Great traction and excellent bite. It was hard to break the rear tires loose but those tires really hooked up!
