Gee whiz I thought some 1 won the lottery, talk bout excitement. If Kawasaki put IRS on the prairie and kept the price the same the bike would sell out faster then cannolis and hotcakes, like it does now already as it is.

all i'm trying to say is how can you be dissappointed with something that hasn't been ridin by anyone but Honda test riders yet??????? Sure you could have reservation and opinions about the thing (and we all do) but calling it a flop???? I agree with you guys, i don't THINK it will compare with the Prarie on the trail or the Sportman in the mud but we may all be very shocked when i finally hit the dealers. I'm not holding my breath but i'm not going to call it a flop because Honda will sell everyone that they build.......just like the Rubicon, Foreman, Rancher etc etc......

I'd say it's pretty easy to be dissapointed in Honda...I mean look at the comparison, and then one says WTF Honda?!? I mean...they've had a while to make this thing better then the competition, and it seems to me they completely dropped the ball.
SPECIFICATIONS | RINCON | GRIZZLY
Displacement: 649cc | 660cc
Carburetion: 37 | 42
Front Suspension Travel: 6.9" | 7.1"
Rear Suspension Travel: 8" | 9.5"
Ground Clearance: 10" | 11.8"
Front Brakes: DRUM | DISC
Fuel Capacity: 4.5G | 5.3G
4X4 LIMITED SLIP | Limited Slip & TRUE 4X4
MSRP: $7,599.00 | $6,999.00
Now, just looking at that....why would anyone pay more money for less quad?
I'm just really surprised....the last one of the big players to release their "flag ship big bore" and they come in last behind Yamaha, Polaris, & Kawasaki. Their new transmision is a bit of a wild card, but that still remains to be seen. Will they sell a $hit load of them? Probally, but that's just me 2 cents.

I never said it was a flop,...I said it was a rip off. It doesn't have the features to justify that price. Actually it doesn't even have the features to justify the price of the Prairie 650, or Grizz 660! If a company is going to price their machine higher than anyone else, then there better be something awesome about it to justify the extra cost. What does it have that is better than the rest? The biggest most powerful engine? No! Not with only a 4 valve "pushrod" 649cc engine with a single 37mm carb! Like I said earlier the Grizzly has a 5-valve 660cc engine with a 42mm carb. The Rincon can't move as much air, do to the 4 valve head and smaller carb, therefore it can't produce as much power. The Prairie 650 has a V Twin with dual 32mm down draft carbs and 4 valves per cylinder, (a total of 8 valves) with higher compression at 9.9:1. That is the only reason that it is able to produce more power from a smaller 633cc engine, it is a much more efficient high performance design. Does the Rincon have a fully locking front diff? No! Dual piston front disk breaks, Nope again! It has front drum breaks! Oh, I forgot, it does have a single disk break in the rear. Come on, even the Suzuki Vinson, a 500cc class machine, has disk breaks front and rear, and it cost less than $6,500.00. The only new feature that the Rincon brings to the industry is the automotive type 3-speed automatic transmission, which I would not want. At least with a CVT type transmission, it is variable and always in the proper gear, for maximum torque and power. With a 3-speed auto, I don't see that happening. Have you ever driven a 3 speed automatic car in the mountains? It sucks; the car is always down shifting, and then up shifting, looking for the right gear, but never finding it! I could go on and on, but I'm not going to. I have already written enough! The point is, if your going to demand the highest price, then you better build the best-built, best-equipped, and most powerful machine! I'm sure that the Rincon will be well built, and a good machine, but from all the spec's that I have seen, and everything that I have read, the price should only be about $6.700.00. A little more than some of the 500cc machines that offer all the same feature, and even more in some case's, like disk breaks front and rear, and a little less than the other "Open Class Machines" like the Prairie 650, Grizzly 660, and SP700, that all offer more features, and from the way things look, more power. That is a realistic price for the Rincon! Will the Rincon be a good machine, I sure it will be a great riding, good looking, very dependable 4x4. But is it worth that ridicules price? Absolutely not!

Silverbear, I didn't read your post until after I had posted, but I couldn't agree with you more!!! You summed it up perfectly with great comparisons, and you managed to do it with allot less jabber than me Bravo!

Ditto to all you guys have said regarding locking diff., brakes, etc.
I am going to be less technical here. The Rincon is NOT a good value for the money. I know my Honda dealer will ask full retail where I live. He wanted more for a Rubicon then I paid for my Prairie 650. Not that the Rubi is bad its just that the 650 is more high performance.
Back to the Rincon. Beautiful looking front end. Nice and mean. But it needs a grill guard for protection.
Tires look cheesier than my stock Dunlops on my 650. I think 650 owners can pass the torch to Honda as ATV with worse stock tires.
Rims look like those flimsy gray crap rims that Toyota used to put on a lot of their small 4X4 pickups.
There is promise for the transmission. Let's give it a chance anyways. New Rincon owners, update us as soon as you take delivery and let us know how the 3 speed works in different situations.
Racks look small.
Cool that Honda has IRS now though. In the video the ground clearance did not look good at all though.

The Rincon will by no means be a flop. In my opinion, it lacks features that its competition has of course, but lets not get into that which is better thing til they come out. Then we will have so much of that going around your heads will all spin like Linda Blair.
The big thing is that ridiculous price. Hell, you could get a Polaris Diesel for that price!!! (complete sarcasm)
Its not the best idea to overprice your competition by $600 right out of the gate. That is pretty much selling your name.
If anything, put it right between the Grizz/Prairie and the SP700 and knock the Rubicon down to $6499 retail, then the 450's down to $5899 and $5699 respectively. Keep the Ranchers where they are and get rid of that age old Foreman 400 that basically has no place between the current price range of quads of different displacement.
The Rubicon becomes obsolete at an MSRP of 7 grand. They are going like hell fire chili around here for like $5800 nowdays. This price from dealers that wouldn't budge a dime off MSRP 3 months ago. And the main reason is that they know they will never get them off the floor if they are priced so close to the 650 when it comes out.
The big question is WHY is this quad worth $7600? What is the big selling point? The transmission I guess, cause that is the only thing it has over any of its competitors. Even if by some act of God the bike is more powerful than a 650 V-twin, it won't be enough to really notice. It will make its debut with the worst 4wd system available in a 650 class quad. It will have drums up front to fill with mud and wear to nothing long before the other disc equipped quads notice such trouble.
Basically, there is no reasoning behind the overly high price tag.

I think the root of the problem is the fact that Honda IS the #1 selling brand and they have 32% of the market. What's their motive for including pricey features? That just cuts into their profits. And you know they'll sell every Rincon at the $7,600 asking price. Why wouldn't they want to make $2,000 to $3,000 or more on every quad they sell? The other manufacturers are playing catch up so they have a real motive for upstaging the competition. Honda has the resources and engineering dept to create a quad that will blow everyone else out of the water for a comparable price, but the only way we are going to get that quad from Honda is if we buy from the competition until they make it for us. When they start losing market share to other brands, you can bet they will stop sitting on their hands and counting their money.

HondaGuy,
$7,300 for a Sportsman 700 in your area? WOW!! You gotta come to MN. Prairie 650 for $6,100; Yamaha Grizzly for $6,299; and the Polaris Sportsman 700 for $6,319.
Our Honda dealer (in a town of 140,000) would only come down $200 off MSRP on his Hondas and Yamahas. The other Yamaha dealer (in a town of 8,000)40 minutes away is going crazy with sales for the above price on Yamaha 660 and blowing this other guy out the door.
Nobody around here except for stupid people will pay $7,600 for the Rincon. I inquired about this ATV before getting my 650 and Jack at the dealership said $200 down puts me in line. And he will ask for full MSRP on the Rincon.
I think that the Rincon is cool and I would love to have one. But in comparison with the other "Big Bores", its not worth as much more as the MSRP states.
