97 Foreman problem
#1
Hello All, I just joined here and just wanted to say that this website is great, being a atv enthusiast, it has alot of good information.
I have a 97 Honda Foreman, this bike has been great so far, until now,
the last time I was riding it, it was running good, I was going down the trail and it just acted like it ran out of gas, came to a stop, got it running again and managed to get back to the truck, it will run at idle but as soon as you give it gas it wants to die, no it's not the choke, I've tried that, in fact it seems to run better with it on, but it still won't go full throttle. I checked all the fuses, purged the spark arrestor, changed the spark plug and nothing....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
any help is appreciated

Sounds exactilly like water in the carb. on the side of the carb, toward the bottom, there should be a screw that drains the float bowl. Shut the gas off at the petcock, and open the screw. Gas will drain out the carb overflow tube. Close it up, turn the gas back on, and crank it till it starts (let off every 5 sec's for so to avoid burning up the starter). It'll take longer to start because the carb will be dry at first. After this your problem should be gone.

When I had my 350 Fourtrax 4x4, this was a symptom of when I needed a new spark plug. The funny thing was is that it worked fine up until it would just die under throttle and barely idle on it's own. The first time this happened to me I was baffled for two days until I tried a new plug and it started right up. Regardless of when you changed it last, it wouldn't hurt to put in a new new one anyway.
