Wipeout!

I was riding my 400EX saturday morning with some dirtbikers. I was gona try to clear this nice jump I havnt made before. I was 3rd hauling up a hill with the throtle pinned, I got about 8 ft in the air and realized I was too crooked to land, but I hang on and took it. I landed facing left and as soon as I hit the ground I went flying, I remember opening my eyses and seeing my thyes against my helmet. I rolled about 25 ft and came to a sitting position. I sat there a second and looked back and saw my EX upside down, I jumped up and limped over to it and flipped it back over and then I realized how bad it hurt. I lied down and looked at my knbee, it was solid blue and i had blood dripping from my shoulders and back and elbows. My EX has 2 bent front rims and a bent bumper. The dirtbikers said it rolled once over frontwards and 4 times sideways. They said it came within about a foot over rolling on top of me. After 10 minutes I crawled on the EX and wobled home on the road. My helmet saved my life and I consider myself very lucky and think I should take my riding a step down.
01 400ex with a UNI filter and soon to be ac bumper and fast trekker front tires on .190 rims.

Mann DDQ, you are lucky. You should invest in some riding gear and a rock protecter.
I sat and thought after we talked the other night about you bottoming out your front shocks, then it dawned on me you were probably doing this in the woods and on dirt piles. Do you guys have a MX track near by you could practice on. This is a lot better place to go and practice getting big air.
We try to keep it kinda tame when we are off the track. Seems when we are off the track this is were some one always gets hurt.
Well got to save some money now for some rims and repairs I'm sure.
I'm out here working, getting siked up for some racing next week. Also trying to make some plans on how to save some money for a new bike for my son. Won't be untill january or so, but gotta start planning now, ya know.

What kind of bike you getting him? Im not getting the shocks anymore, gona spend the money on a tire kit, im gona get 21'' fast trekkers on .190 rims, its $144 for the kit, the stock rim itself is $113 so I figure why not get stronger rims and new tires as well. I foud out im not bottoming after all, the jump
I crashed on I had been hitting all morning. I was only going about 15ft when I thought I was bottoming out, so I tried to clear the 25ft jump that morning and came up 6 inches short of the landing, suprisingly I never bottomed all the times I hit the jump.I never herd a clank, it just felt like I was bottoming from not making the landing. You were right, I dont need the shocks after all, theres an extra $300 to spend on something else.

I just found it hard to believe, the lakota doesn't bottom out and the EX has waaaaay better shocks.
Good $300, good tires make a big difference.
I'm not sure about wich bike for him yet, I was thinking a 2 stroke 80, but I'll leave it up to him. He likes honda alot so probably a CR 80, I'd like him to get the KX 85, but what ever he thinks.
When we go to the shop he looks at the TTR 125 alot, but you know he wants me to build that one for him. Who knows, just know I'll need $3500. That will be the going price for the 2 strokes. If he goes with that TTR 125, I'll still need the extra cash for a 150 kit, clutch, cam pipe, filter and jetting. We will see.

You set on a new one? You can get a nice CR 80 for $2-2500. Do you know how well fast trekkers hook up? I know they have alot more rubber to ground contact area so the may last longer too. If they dont work too well I will spend an extra $30 and get the holeshots.

I'm not dead set on a new one. Just realy not going to look for a used one, but if I come across a good used one I'll get it.
My brother has a KX 125 that no bodies used in years, he's been itching to rebuild it for my son but he's still a bit small for it still. It's an 88 also, but pretty much mint still. I don't think any ones road it sense about 1990.
I realy don't like the holeshots other than for racing. They are very soft and most have to replace them quite a bit. Holeshots makes a XCT that is very good. It's for a woods/track aplication. I have some on my front now. I also think very highly of the razzors, I have a set of them also. I have shreaders on the rear now, they have softer side walls than the XCT's and Razzors but are surprisingly good. Unless you are a race only type person I would view other options to keep from the cost of replacing them soon. The razzors and XCT's are pricey too, but the shreaders I found were very cheap.
