i have a 1993 300ex and when i start it the starter makes a grinding noise.
when i removed the side cover to inspect the starter and the gears it drives i was expecting to find missing teeth or worn gears. they all look in good shape?
any ideas? thanks in advance for any help.

Your battery is low, or almost dead. I've heard that "grinding" noise before. Either charge or replace your battery, and the noise will go away. You current battery doesn't have the cranking amps to push the starter motor.

 

or your starter clutch went out, like mine[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img] but!, its fixed now[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]
