I would ride it first. It depends on where you ride. There are places that a Polaris hase it's advantages and there are placed the Rubicon has its advantages. I have not had my ATV up to the gas tank in mud and probably never will. So far in the mud, snow, rocky hills, and so on, there has not been any place that my friends have been able to go that I have not. So far (1800 miles) it has gone everywhere I have pointed it and I don't recall any place that other ATV's have gane any "easier" than me.
If your intensions are to drive your Rubicon in gas tank deep mud, a front locker would be advantagous.
Enjoy your new ATV, we have certainly enjoyed ours.

This is what you are looking for:

It allows for easy steering while locking up the front end.

I have 3500km on my Rubicon, and I have put it through everything, but it DOES three wheel. I have ordered and will install the diff locker and the Warn 424. As for not seeing other quads going where you were not able, you haven’t ridden with the CAT 500i. I own both and like each for its own reasons, but I will say this: when it comes to mud, clearance is everything. One day I rode with two Rubicons, and Polaris 500ho, and a Yamaha Grizzly, and I had to, on numerous occasions, pull them all out and the cat didn’t not get stuck once. The cat wins here simply because is has 12inches of ground clearance stock (13 with my tires) and good low end. But there are other things I still like the Rubicon for, such as its low center of gravity.
