200X with a 500 cc engine??
#1
I saw an ad in my local buyers guide ( a small weekly publication for local classifieds ) and a guy is offering an '80s model ( cant remember the year exactly ) 200x quad with a 500FT engine in it. has anyone ever heard of this engine? I dont know what this guy means and I cant get a phone call through to him. he only wants $400 for it, maybe id buy it if it ran and it has a 500cc motor! Anyone have thoughts or comments on this??

It is a 500cc engine and will run like one Had a neighbor (still friend) that has a 600cc (from a street bike) in his 185 atc, he even has a wheelie bar in the rear, say it kicks a$$ in glamis.
Good luck,
Ron

The FT500 is a single cylinder engine that honda put into the early model Shadow 500 and Ascot 500. It was also used in the XR500 before the RFVC engine's showed up.
This is the engine [FT] that guys pull the head off of and put onto 350X topends to boost performance.
I don't have any numbers in front of me, but I have rode one of those bikes and the engine barely feels stronger than a 400EX engine. It is most likely even closer to a 400EX in regards to rear wheel power when put into the heavier three wheeler frame.
I would go and check it out. If the conversion looks like it was done professionaly, I would grab it up if the guy isn't asking too much for it.
