28 inch tires vs 27
#1
I have a 01 rubicon with 27 blackwater xt on a 2 inch lift. I'm lookin for feedback on putt'in 28 inch titan 589's for a more aggressive tire to ride in slop, snow, and better climbing abilities. Also, anybody using the K&N power kit, and how much of a difference does it make. Thanks alot.

I can't really help you out on the "Honda" part, but I've got a 4x4 over here. Logically, the bigger the tire, the less power/acceleration. You asked about the K&N power kit- If you stepup to the 28's, I would recommend putting a pipe on it. FMF makes one, SuperTrapp makes one, and plenty of others. With the addition of the pipe, filter, and jetkit, your quad would probably have just a little more power than it did when stock(with 28" tires that is. If you put the stockers back on, it would be much faster. Hope I helped Anymore questions?

Thanks for the info. I'm thinkin I may stay with 27's. The blackwater xt's on my bike now are pretty stiff feeling. I like the feedback on the titan 589's. Is there any way to get a softer feel again after putting on a 2" lift? Also, are there any "quieter" exhaust pipes then others. I love how quiet my rubi is now, and if there's a way to gain power without sacrificing too many decibels, that would be ideal. I know, I know, and wouldn't life be great without taxes...thanks alot for the feedback...

The FMF is pretty loud. SuperTrapp's arent really quiet, but I think they sound awesome. A friend had an IDS2 on a 300EX, and it helped alot with power, but the sound was unbeatable. Im sure the 500's bigger motor would make it sound even better. The IDS2 has the disc setup, so you can tune the pipe to your liking. If you want it to have more power to lug out some mud, put in more discs. The more discs the quieter. I may have that backwards. I don't recall if more disks equals more low end, or vice versa. Im sure someone else could tell you that
The only way to soften the ride that I know of is to let some air out of the tires. I also don't see that 28" tires would be an advantage. Of course, I haven't went TRUE mudding in about 2 years. With 2" of lift, and 27" tires, you're still sitting an inch higher than a stock ride with 28's.
