MUDMACHINE,
I've got a 500 cubic inch stroker motor in my '69 Barracuda (built, yet to be started). Ill challenge your holeshot, yet I'd NEVER race the SUPeRNATURaL 400ex over any distance!
Some fish stories just cannot be believed!
pun intended..
Gotta feed,

Roost,
I am SHOCKED and appaled thay you doubt my "fish story" as you called it.... hehehehehe
I thought it was a pretty good one for just off the top of my head... So what is this, ya'll believe the 400 EX story and NOT mine?... hahahahahaha....
You're into Mopars too, huh?. I've got a fairly quick short wheelbase stepside Dodge that runs a 360 with 340 t/a heads. Best time to date was an 11:89 at 122 m.p.h.
Note: that was on joy juice and slicks running thru the mufflers.. Set-up in street form, and on the motor only, it'll run consistent 12:80's with good air...

Lets throw this violently off topic!
I've got a 79 GMC short box with
fresh 350 goodwrench block
Stock goodwrench heads
Soon vortex heads
Flowmaster headers
dual 3" exhaust with afterburner muflers
Comp cams magnum 270
1.6 roler rockers
Weiend action plus intake
Carter 600
MSD 6a ignition, MSD 8.8's
Acell HEI coil (stock distributor, Recurved advance)
Fresh 400 tranny
B&M transpak
2400 Holeshot
Running 295/50/15 with 3.73 with a spool.
I spin it 6000 till the shift light blinds me, sideways on 2nd, will powerslide and do the mega smoke out on request... ran low 13's on a hot day. Mudmachine, lets go racing!

Okay ex man you want to race my big truck. We will have to meet up some time to do that like on a thursday night or so on national television because thats the only time I race the "Grave Digger." Proud owner of the 99 points leader. You don't know horse power and you sure don't know me.

Hahahahaha.. I remember when those trucks first came out... Car Craft or Popular Hot Rodding did a test on the 1/4 mile between a 454SS pickup and a GMC Sierra with a 350 5-speed...
There was less that a half second betwen the two, and as they tested them, the 454 got slower and slower and the GMC remained the same... They stated that after the test were complete and they had left the track and returned to the office, they found out that the GMC wasn't even as well geared as the 454..(rear-end gears)
I didn't even know there were any of those still around.. what did they make out of the factory.... 210-220 h.p.?? Chevy should have been ASHAMED!!!... Good to hear you tweaked that one up... Ive heard if you trash the stock heads and make some induction changes.. it'll actually run some respectable times..

Here's what I think, I have always felt that anybody can drag, probably because I usually win. But it does take more skill than I usually give it credit for, but there are others factors like terrain or even weather that can play a role. I've seen 400EX's beat 250R's and Banshee's for the holeshot in MX, but it is rare. Also I'd believe it because When I first started racing I was on a stock 250X. Sometimes they would start the 4-strokes 5-10 feet behind the 2-strokes when their weren't many at the race. Guess what place I was for the holeshot almost everytime, 4th. That means I usually passed 5-6 250R's and Banshees on a 5th gear strait and I started a row behind each one. Don't beleive it, well my dad, older brother and every spectator saw it every time.
No, I never had the power to pass on the straits after that, but due to being really good off the line, getting good position early, and being fast in turns I could hang with the front runners, thgus I never finished under 4th overall against the 2-strokes either. Now that I have a 2-stroke, I'll just say I was bored racing for the first time in my life (I was never challenged, eventhough I now lived in an area that had as many as 30 quads in one class). I even overheard the local pro that usually wins the holeshot tell somebody that he thinks I may be quicker than him in the holeshot and he runs a 350R race ported and I run a 330R only mildly tuned.
So the main reason a person wins a holeshot is due to the rider knowing how to use the power they have the best, as I have always felt for anything.
On the other hand a Banshee is fast and hard to beat even with an R in the straight if ridden properly (So a 400EX does have an uphill battle on the strait against one, but its not totally impossible), but the Banshee gets eaten everywhere else, so their usually not a bother after a lap or so. But then on occasion there is a rider that can ride on that fine line between being out-of-control and in-control that you have to be on with a Banshee in MX, and they can keep up or possibly win. But thats rare also.

I agree with SICKMAN totally. The key to racing or competitive riding is "you" knowing your machine better than your opponent knows his own ride.
A rider on a 300EX that completely knows his machine and makes no mistakes with beat an average rider on a 400EX around the track every day of the week.
The trick is to know your physical limitations(riding skills) and the boundaries of your machine. Skills such as how the tires hook up, how the suspension works and reacts, and being in control--even when it looks like you are not.
Best advice: Experiance is the key and practice. You just never know what your going to get.
