It's hard to say really without knowing what is most important to you, the kind of riding, and if you will be modifing later or not.
The price here is high. $6,399 for the EX and $4,949 for the Warrior. That's almost $1,500. I know I like to spend less and modify more and the EX can't even compare with the Warrior's reliability. There are late 80's & early '90 models still running strong with no major repairs. As you can see in this forum, there are 2000 EX models already having problems.
The EX does handle better and make a little more power out of the crate. But, coming off a sled onto a quad, you'll probably be bored easily with either without mods like most other sled riders are.
GOOD LUCK!

I have ridden both and bought the 400EX. The Warrior feels heavier, engine has less power (17 vs. 27) and snap, suspension is acceptable. I would buy one for the wife since it has reverse, but you will have to pry my cold dead body off of my 400EX. It is much lighter feeling, better balanced. The power is very crisp and builds quickly. I can lift the front end on a moments notice and carry it as far as needed. Suspension soaks jumps much better. I would call the Warrior a good sport ATV for the amateur and the 400EX a high performance ATV for the enthusiast. They are in two different classes the 400EX=Banshee, and the 300EX=Warrior. Good Luck!

Agreed. If you look around 400EX's can be found for the low $5,000's. A friend just bought one a couple of months ago for $5,050.
I paid $5,600 out the door for mine in August and it was one of the first shipped, they can be found cheaper now.
The last two posts are right on. The 400EX is a far superior machine in practically way to a Warrior (except reverse).
This Duster guy has some personal thing against it, and his statement about reliability is absolutely ludicrous. There is a big power difference, big suspension & handling difference and the potential upgrade path is far better on the 400EX.
As the others have said, the Warrior is comparable to the 300EX in terms of performance, and is more suited as a beginners / middle performance trail bike.

Honestly, there isn't much to think about. My brother has a Warrior and I have a 400ex, he kicks himself evertime we go riding. The 400ex is that much better. The 400ex is MUCH faster and the suspension is MUCH better. I am not hyping it, what I am saying is for real. Go try to pop a wheelie in second on a Warrior or attack a huge jump, the 400ex is worlds better than the Warrior, trust me. You can even ask my brother, he is saving up now to trade in his 2000 Warrior for one.

IF YOU GET A CHANCE RIDE BOTH MACHINES AND I
THINK THAT YOU WILL SEE FOR YOUR SELF THAT
THE WARRIOR HASNT GOT A CHANCE AGAINST THE
400EX IN POWER,HANDLING,WHEELIES,HILL CLIMING
AND RELIABILITY.

You could compare the 300ex to a warrior, like Dirt Wheels does every 6 months it seems. I can't even believe we are comparing the Warrior to the 400. You're worried about not having reverse? You got reverse on your sled? Just don't park anywhere that you have to back up. And if you get stuck on a trail, I guaran-damn-tee you the quad is easier to move than the sled. Besides, who wants to go backwards in life? When you try and keep up with a 400ex on that Warrior, reverse isn't peel you off that oak tree you smacked into because the handling sucks.

Atver400: You can spell out LOVE, you don't have to use the ****. Did I hurt your feelings poor little baby? Facts are facts, the Warrior is prone to breaking down(how long does it take you to tighten your chain?) and the overall design is outdated and flawed. If you can't handle the facts crawl back to mommy and beg for a 400EX. Unlike you I paid for my quad from working. If you had to earn the money for a quad you would have investigated it a little better before you made a poor decision.
