I have a 1997 300ex and my dad has an 88 warrior it is bone stock. My ex has an fmf pipe,k&n air filter, and dg skid plates and front and rear bumpers. My ex will almost out run him, but not quite. I hvent had any probs with my ex. I love it. The warrior has a broken axle carrior. And thats the only prob he has had

Hey dude! Good to see that you are considering the quad that has been the best rated all-around trail quad since it came out! The Honda 300EX has been on the top of the sport quad hill for 8 years straight. Dirt Wheels magazine (you do read it, don't you? ) has had a shoot-out with these two quads fighting each other for several years now. In the June 1999 issue, the 300EX was again chosen as the best all-around ride. And more recently, 4Wheel ATV Action did a matchup against a Polaris 400 Scrambler in their April 2000 issue and they picked the Honda over the Polaris. Sure the Warrior and the Polaris might be a tick faster than the 300EX, but the 300EX will whip the pants off of anything else in it's class when it's time to go around a turn, over a jump, or through some whoops!! I have had my 300EX for five years and can't find a thing wrong with the machine. Some whine about little things (choke lever placement, reverse procedure) but once you start to ride a quad daily you get used to them. I can keep up with my brother-in-law's Warrior when we trail ride together and I can certainly beat him anywhere but on a long straight. I hope that you do a little more research beyond this web site before you spend your hard earned $$$. I did five years ago and I don't regret it one bit. By the way, the reliability of my 300EX has been great. Replaced the battery at 4 years old, just did front control arm bushings, and will get a new chain and gears in a month or two. Hope this is a help to you in your decision.

When I had my 300ex it was slower than a warrior. Difference is reliability and ride. The warrior is like a chev. Its got tons of speed but lacks in durability, the honda(or ford) has the extra torque thats going to help and the extra comfort. I've used both, atv's and trucks and its all in how you ride. However, a honda floats good too; if you do to much water you better by a boat. Havin'fun.

Even though the warrior has more displacement than the EX, it does not make it a better machine at all. The EX has a 4 valve motor, Warrior has 2 valves. EX has a superior suspension, weighs less, and responds to mods very well. The warrior is a good machine, but in my opinion it's in need of alot of updating to be in the same class as the 300EX. Ride Red!!!

One of the biggest factors in this choice concerns your height, how tall are you? If your close to six foot you may feel more comfortable on a Warrior, because it is actually a bigger machine.
Although here we go with my own personal opinion and feelings. I have never said this on this public forum, but here goes.
I don't like a Warrior. I don't think that Yamaha has built it with mechanic friendly features. I do not like allen head bolts in a motor (period), and that chain adjustment system is really a poor design, although there are other ATV's with the same system. I have been thinking about these things because I just built a Warrior motor last week. If I were to buy one I would take all the allen head bolts out and replace them with regular bolts and then I would buy a swingarm with the Honda style bearing carrier which is a cam design.
If the 300ex feels too small for you look into a 400ex.
Of couse like I said this is just my 2 cents.

Here goes...I own both and....The Warrior..Pops out of forward on ruff hillclimbs, making you do reverse cartwheels down the hill..Crappy chain adjuster...Poor valve seal design...Handles like a Suburban...Starters go out once a year...motor mounts are weak and easily egg out the holes...Airfilter design is a JOKE..THE 300EX..Is too short, likes to do some end swapping...Reverse and choke are a pain(but atleast it stays in forward)...Doesn't have much power..
My conclusion,
It's a lot easier and cheaper to make the 300ex faster than it is to make the Warrior reliable and handle.
