Foreman brakes

I just bought a 01 Foreman 450S and it has no brakes.It had been sitting for a while when I bought it so I figured that was the main reason.I have talked to other Foreman owners and they say they really don't have any brakes either.I know that drum brakes are not as good as disc's but there has to be something I can do.Right now the rear is stuck and if I pump the front I get some brakes.The previous owner said the shoes were installed not long before he quit riding it.Any help would be appreciated.

Check for air in the hydraulics. Also check/adj. brakes shoes. Also, jack the frt. end up off the ground, and make sure the wheel bearings aren't loose. If the brngs. are loose, the frt wheel seal, won't, and it'll let in mud and water. Good luck with your new "toy". PS---Spend the money on a factory service manual, it'll save you time, money, and grief in the long run. They were $44.00 to your door from:<www.helminc.com> , when I bought mine 1 1/2 yr ago.
