can someone tell what better 400ex or Z-400

Both are excellent quads but you can pick up a used 400EX for a good price and use the money you saved for mods. I like my Z400 and love the reverse and liquid cooling but I will be buying a used 400EX to make a race rig out of for my son. And yes the Z400 can be modded to make close to 50 horsepower but if your just getting started and are trying to save money the 400EX is a good deal when used. I wouldn't however even think of buying a new one.

Overall speed....Raptor Overall value....honda400ex overall performance (woods racing, handling, durability)...honda400ex overall innovation....cannondale blaze
Saw a Z400 stock drag race with a stock 400ex on pavement....dead even
Just my opinions above. I have'nt been on a Z-400 enough to evaluate it, just basing this on feedback from customers I have dealt with from tours.

I have a 400ex and love it I would not sell it to get a z400. Now having said that if I were going to buy a new bike I would get the Z it is basicaly an updated version of the 400ex. What the ex does great the Z is just a tad better it is not worlds of difference but it is enough plus you get the reverse.

<< The Cannibal runs faster than the Raptor!! >>
I stand corrected. Sorry, that was just what I had been told (I was also considering the extra 15 HP that a yoshi exhaust adds to Raptor). I would love to check a cannondale out sometime. I have only read and looked at them, never rode one. I need something to depend on day to day for a guide service, and until we get a sufficient amount of machines, I am skeptical about buying one due to the fact that they have'nt been out long enough. I am a little more confident in having a honda at the time. Love that all aluminum hand crafted frame, and the fact that you can map the fuel injection on the cannibal to run the same as the blaze. Great concept....
That reverse does sound good on the Z400. I also like the look of the green on the Kawasaki Z400 (oops, I meant kfx400).

Let me start off with saying the EX is a great machine. They've proven to be a well built machine and are very reliable. But, the times are changing. The Z will get you liquid cooling, dual overhead cams, and reverse (which is so very nice. You'll never know you need it until you've had it, period.) It also takes to hop ups better than the ex, gaining more hp with the same mods (due to it's engine config). The Z is slightly faster than the ex, but the Z is also real choked for air and once opened up, really rips. The engine can be massaged out to OVER fifty ponies if you like. The motor has also been around for a while in the dirtbikes and has proven it's reliablity there. So, my suggestion, if you are going to get a new quad, get a Z. If you are going to get an ex, don't buy new, there are plenty of used ones out there for real cheap, then just mod the heck out of it. I love my Z and my girlfriend loves hers too. We've had them from day one released with no problems at all and I beat the pi$$ outta mine.

I have a 400ex and it's been good to me since I've had it.... and i'm not very nice to it! My ex has some mods and when we took it to Sand Mountain for DS Days it beat the z400 pretty bad without even trying.I'm not saying the z400 is bad but if you're willing to spend a little cash on a ex it's pretty awesome...we beat raptors, banshees and DS650's none of which were stock. This doesn't mean we can beat all raptors, banshees, and DS650's but the ex hollds it's own pretty good. This is just my opinion...it really depends on what your looking for(like reverse)and how well you ride. I would certainly hope a 440EX on alky would smoke a stock Z!!! Slap that Z to a 450 and then post THOSE results. I have a sneaky suspicion the outcome would be different, at least a good match.
Like said several tims b4, EX is a decent machine, but just can't match the Z, not for the same price. If you want an EX, go used. If your wanting a new machine, there is no choice, Z all the way. Between the EX and Z, anyway. Let us know what you decide!
