Powder coating is applied by having a current flowing through the parts & the powder sticks to them. It is then heated to bake the powder on.
That was a simple expination but you get the idea.

It is more expensive than painting but about the same as chroming.
It is also tougher than the gates of He11 & will hold up longer with less care than chrome or paint.

You need to go to a powder coating shop, I haven't heard of detailers doing it because of the specialized equipment required.

My frame cost me $175 i think. That was frame and sub frame. Powdercaoting my bike was one of the best things i have done for it. No more rust ever. But watch the screw holes when putting the bike back together. I broke a few off. Try not to do this.

Powder coating can run from $200 up depending on what all they have to do as far as prep work. The frame has to be sand blasted and solvent cleaned, then they precook it to burn off all the solvent residue. It is then coated in any shade you want, and baked in a 450 degree oven until the powder reaches "flow out". You will not be dissapointed should you choose to have it done. Some of the colors available now for powder coating rival some of the trickest automotive paints. Look in the yellow pages under industrial coatings to find a job shop around you and give them a visit.

I am just starting to get into powder coating my self at home but am a long ways from doing big parts like frames. Good luck.

You will find different prices out there, so check around. I did my '89 250R frame, and my Banshee frames and they come out looking excellent. They almost look to nice to bolt anything back onto them. It cost me $175 for sand blasting and powdercoat here locally. Just make sure if you do have your frame done, to make sure they plug the holes that need plugged, that way the threads don't fill up with powdercoat.
