I don't think anything bad of you at all. If you came here, I'd ride with ya in an instant. I think Honda makes a good quad. No doubt about that. For me, though, what I have against Honda's is it's riders. Honda riders seem to have the "my quad's better than yours attitude". Not saying your like this, but you are being that way. See what I mean. I ride a Lakota for crying out loud. I can keep up with a 400ex on the trails anyday, but get spanked in a drag. Well, at least the ones I've ridden with. I think it's the rider thing again. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img] Back to the topic, I'm just saying that for the money the Z is a great value compared to what's on the market. Also, mod, keep in mind the dyno charts you saw show a particular hp reading on a particular dyno on a particular day. For example, the October 2002 Dirt Wheels show the Z to have 32.9 hp. The most I've even seen the 400ex get was 26.9. See the differences. Dyno's can be very different from one another. Unfortunately, you can't always go by them. But, this is the only way we can compare other than having them next to each other. Be rest assured the Z has more than 2hp more than the EX on average.
Yes, modded, you can mod an EX to whip a Z. But, it will cost more money and there are a few things that you will still never have. ie., liquid cooling, dohc. Also, no one has really come out with anything to compete with the 400ex, 'till now. The DS was after something else. Rule the Dunes and still be quite capable on the trails. The Raptor, to rule the woods and still be quite capable on the dunes. These were made big bore to kill everything out. Which they did. Each has it's down fall, sure, but they are all completely different from each other. This is the 1st time there has been a quad come out to directly compete with the EX. If we go back to the past, we have the Suzi LT250. It will beat a 250R. That's a fact. The R handles better, the LT is faster. Which are you looking for? Then you have the Tecate 250 by Kawi.. Again, will kill a 250r, but won't out handle it. However, these other machines can handle well enough for a good rider to outrun a 250R. It happens all the time.
I'm saying I think the Z is a better value. You get more for the money. Is it more reliable? I don't know. I don't believe in that for the most part. If it breaks, I'll fix it. Is the EX a good quad. Yes. But, do us a favor and don't buy an EX. At least not a new one, not yet. The reason I say that is because Honda is far more likely to NOT come out with a new machine when the one they currently has is still selling well. The ball is in their court and I'm very anxious to see what they are going to do.

See, I dont htink Honda will come out with a new model. If you look in the past they build one of the first stylings out and then everyone else follows. About the only thing they changed(sport quad wise) is the 250X which they bumped up to a 300ex... It just doesn't seem like Hondas style to chase or compete. They put what they built out there and let it ride no matter what others come out with...
If we see a 450 Sport quad, I will be suprised!

I think they WILL come out with something new. May not be for a year or so, but I'm sure it's definitely in the works as we speak. 450 or 650, not sure which. I've heard a lot of good reasonings for both. The pressure is on them. I'm sure 400ex sales are down, and the Predator, I'm sure, will take some more possible EX buyers. Honda will not keep letting us down forever, they will come out with something new. I have faith! [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

give 'em 12 man, give 'em 12. This will give them a chance to bring something out and see how it compares and will give the others that are just coming out (Z and Predator, and rumor of a 400cc Yamaha, not to mention the 700twin from Kawi.) time to see how they hold up and really perform. Hang in there, dude, this is a great time for sport quads.

I can vouch for Rocket,
We were there at the same time, don't get us wrong, we were getting smoked by a few banshees and a chick on a DS, but there were a few times when the banshee guys would look at us like "WTF?!"

We? He stated he's a stock bore 400, your apparently a 440. Which is it man? Are you saying not only was your 440 outrunning these machines, but also his stock 400? I inquired before on the mods. Please indulge me.
