400ex Different Sprockets
#1
Anyone know where to get a 1-up tooth front sprocket, or -2 rear sprocket for a 400ex? If you have one, how did the machine handle it? I'm running a stock machine, and need a little more speed to try to take a couple of Banshees.

You should be able to get either through the dealer. I believe there are aftermarkets available too. I have heard it is possible to go 2 more up front with mods but if your chain binds your screwed. My experience with my 300 ex was adding one up front. I really never felt a change though. I would change the rear 1 or 2 higher, It costs more but bigger wheels cover more ground. Let me know how it does, I'm curious about changing it on my 400ex.

I HAVE DONE THE SPROKET CHANGE YOU ARE BOTH WONDERING ABOUT. YOU WANT A LITTLE MORE TOP END OUT OF YOUR EX , I PUT ON A 36 TOOTH REAR SIDEWINDER ( STOCK IS 38 ) AND IT DIDN'T REALLY HURT MY BOTTOM END AT ALL BUT YOU CAN REALLY TELL THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHIFT AS FAST. I HAVE A GPS FOR MEASURING TOP SPEEDS AND WITH THESE COMBINATIONS THIS IS WHAT THE GPS READ, WITH A BIG GUN COMPLETE SYSTEM , K&N , DYNO JET KIT WITH A 165 MAIN, AND STOCK REAR TIRES I RECORDED A SPEED OF 71.4mph NOW WITH THE SAME COMBINATION AS ABOVE WITH THE STOCK 38 TOOTH REAR I ONLY GOT 67.3mph , I ALSO WEIGH 225 LBS THAT WAS NOT AN ADVANTAGE FOR THE TOP SPEED TESTS. THE 36 TOOTH SPROKET AS YOU CAN SEE GAVE ME ROUGHLY 4mph.

i got that sproket from sidewinder, it did cost around 70.00 , check out renthal sprokets in rocky mountain atv they are a little cheaper. i was running the stock front size ( 15 ) if you go to a 16 you have to remove the guard on the front .
