how much for piped, jetted, nerfed 250EX?

i'm considering selling my modded '02 Yellow 250EX for a bigger quad within the next few months. the mods are in my signature below. it has only 30 or so hours as of now, i have EVERY little bit of paper work that i have recieved since buying it, i have reciepts for every part, accessory, and chemical bought for it. this machine has been professionally maintained. air filter was always serviced every 1-3 rides. i also have the stock mudguards and exhaust and i will include them for a little extra money. quad was jetted and had pipe installed by my trusty aftermarket parts guy, who also does my basic maintenance besides the air filter and washing it. it always goes in for the shop for an oil change and fill-up and some other maintenance every 15-20 hours. the quad is mint or near mint (very minor scratches on plastic, few noticeable but not significant marks on a-arms, permanent green stain on axle and a-arms, some noticeable scrapes on stock rims, but none of these are too significant or substantial). it starts up every time and has no problems to speak of. i live in central NJ and unfortunately i've seen absolutely zero 250's for sale. what do you think mine could go for at the very most? if i can convince my dad to let me sell it (i love the machine but eating roost and trying to keep up everywhere but the trails with a scrambler 500, a 400ex, and a modded ds650 is not fun.i rule the trails, so everybody plays catch-up with me instead ), i could possibly have enough money from the sale to buy a used 400ex. this would be the perfect time to do so because alot of these 400ex's are being put on the market by the arrival of the z/kfx and eventually the predator, as well as continued sales of the raptor. if anyone could give me an honest estimate i'd appreciate it. i'm expecting at least 3000 or so.

$3400 by kbb.com. Aftermarkets don't mean much. It actually portrays the picture that you ride hard. Ask $3500, it can't hurt. I thought about trading in my 2002 400 towards a Baja650 and i have every mod possible and the dealer said I could get more for it stripped down to stock than with all "My Crap" that I put on it. Good luck

Just my opinion so don't get bent but I think 3500 for a used bike that you could by brand new with a 6 month warranty and no other rider hours is a lot. I can get a 2002 250ex out the door for around 3700 tax included and we pay 8% up here. shelbygt350 is definitely on with the aftermarket stuff not doing much for the value. If you can get someone to pay you 3500 more power to ya but I would say if you get 3000 your doing well. To me anyways statements of hours on a bike that doesn't have anyway to keep track of them don't mean much.

If i was you i would ask $3500 but not go lower than $2800. Do not give in until the people get in their car and turn it on. You may get lucky. You could easily get a pretty modded 400ex with $3500.

unlike most people in NJ, i went out of state to buy a quad and i paid 3900 out the door for my machine at this cycle shop in staten Island, no bs tax like NJ dealers, saved $650, but most people who are just getting their feet wet in the ATVing world ( in the past year atv sales have increased 40%) are either too lazy to go out of state to buy or dont realize how much monday could be saved by going out of state. if i had simply bought a 250 at my nearest Honda place i would have paid over 4500 for it without a 6 month warranty.being that the 250 is the ultimate beginner's quad, most people that see one that are new to ATVs wouldn't see a relatively new used model with some go-fast parts with low hours and all the right paperwork for 3500 (when they get a new stock one for at least a thousand more) as such a bad deal. i do realize that aftermarket parts on my quad add litttle if any value to it, but most people looking at a 250 dont realize that. i dont wanna rip off the future buyer of my quad, but i want every penny i can get out of it. despite the parts i have on it it's still reliable, and once i get the jetting fine-tuned (i've had it re-jetted, but its kinda running lean as winter comes, so i'll get richer jetting and stick with it for good, so it doesn't overheat during the summer) it should start as soon as you press the start button. it still starts every time, but it takes a little while for it to idle without dying. it's been like that since when i bought so i think richer jetting should fix it.
last but not least, i disagree with your last statement, dirtdiggler. people care about how much the machine has been ridden. i believe it is kinda important whether the machine has 50 or 500 hours, as it can be a huge difference.i have a logbook of how many hours are on each of my machines, so i do keep good track of them.

ryanh250ex,
You misunderstand me. I didn't say people don't care how much a quad has been ridden I said you can't prove how many hours you have or haven't ridden the quad it has no hour meter or odometer so your expecting someone to take your word for it. If you where careful where you rode it so the plastic didn't get all scratched up you could say it had 10 hours on it when it really had 60. It's like when you see an add in the paper for a guitar for sale that says "never played" how can you possibly prove that? Either the quad is like new, slightly worn, average or beat up.
How could you buy a new quad from a honda dealer for 4500 dollars and not have the 6 month warranty that it comes standard with? If you can find someone willing to pay 3500 take it. I just think it's going to be tough and it's going to require luck. It's new quad w/ warranty money for a used quad with out. If I had the choice between the same quad new for 3900 with full warranty or used for 3500 without I'd spend the 400 bucks. Not trying to pi$$ you off just stating my opinion which in the grand scheme of things isn't worth much.

you're right about the warranty. i forgot about the 6 month standard warranty and i was instead thinking of the honda protection plan, which i did not get.
another option is to gut the aftermarket parts and sell it as a stock machine and then sell the hop-up parts separately. i really dont want to resort to doing that, but if that's what i gotta do to sell it at a marginal loss, then i'll do it. this quad looks great despite my aggressive riding and i dont wanna let it go at a low price if i know i can get higher.
keep in mind that i will NOT be selling this machine yet. my dad has hinted that despite having to ride with his scrambler, a piped and jetted DS (friend's dad, sold us the scrambler), and now a either stock or modded 400ex (friend, just sold his 260 Blasturd and is currently searching around for a mint 400), i will be keeping the 250 for at least another 3-6 months, if not longer. my dad doesn't realize that i will be left in the dust by everyone. i can keep up with a few modded 300's but after a few hard laps of mx
i'm tired from the suspension bouncing me around. the reason why i want a 400 so bad is because i wan't something i could hold my own on, not something that will make me roost fodder.

ryanh250ex,
Gutting the parts out of it might not be a bad idea. I might know someone interested in the pipe, jet kit and air filter depending on the price/condition.
Don't feel like I'm saying you would lie I'm not making any personal judgments here I'm just saying anyone buying an atv from anyone with no way to measure hours/miles is taking there word for it. I've kind of noticed with most people that their hour assesments are fairly modest. If it's in great shape it'll speak for itself good luck on the sale if you end up with a 400 you'll love it I know I love mine. I'm saving up for triple rate zps PEP shocks right now and maybe the Trinity full 440 kit after that but it's gonna take a while.
