My mistake was that I didn't realize there was another team besides Gregory/Eichner riding the Rincon. When they list the bikes it just says Honda, so you don't know which model it is.

Actually, Honda made a very shrewd move in hiring some of its most potent competition!! What would the results have been if the (3rd place) Gregory/Eichner team had been on their usual 250R??? They might very well have smoked the Rincon??? The (1st place) Reuben Martin team is full of names I recognize from the past too (they won on a 400EX a few years ago as I recall). So, Honda really hedged its bets and hired the guys that were the biggest threat to them if they had put together another team of their own. And it doesn't hurt to have two teams out there, so if one crashes and breaks a spindle, the other one can take over!!! Plus, a big part of these races is LOGISTICS, and who can do logistics better than Honda with its vast experience desert racing the XR650?

Anybody know what Wes Miller was riding?? He was a DNF. In the Baja 500 he rode the Z400, and ran out of gas a bunch of times (but still finished 5th). I wonder if he rode the Z again?? It will be interesting to see what his story is.

Yes, my comments about the DS were referring to desert racing in general. The bike just hasn't been dominating the scene, like its Baja 2000 win suggested it could. But, this Rincon win suggests that big and heavy isn't necessarily the handicap one might think it is.
