Default Rubicon Shifting Problem

I have a 2002 Honda Rubicon with 27" Vampires. When I'm in HIGH range in D1 or D2 and start from a dead stop it shifts properly. If I don't come to a complete stop the automatic transmission will not shift down to first gear. It fells like it is stuck in 3rd or 4th gear. I have to come to a stop for it down shift all the way. Anyone else having this problem or know how to correct it?

I do believe in your situation that I would have that checked out if its still under warranty and make then document it they cant find anything wrong. the only thing I can think of is I have noticed that mine acts alittle different depending on what kind of oil I put in it. there is a screen and filter inside of your remote oil resivoir and if it is plugged in any way it will cause inacurate back pressure thus changing the shifting patters. that transmission is actually borderline automatic/ hydrostatic. If you have alot of miles on it and are in need of oil change try cleaning the internal filters. I recomend getting the service manuel if you dont have one. There is alot of good info for mainting the machine.

Honda shop is saying there is nothing wrong with the shifting. They said if the sensor was out then it wouldn't shift out of first gear. Is this true?

Deetheman, did yours shift out of first gear?

When mine did it the gear indicater would flash "- - " and it would not shift period most of the time if it did shift and the error message flashed you were stuck in whatever gear you were in.

When I am in D2 it seems mine will not back shift quick enough sometimes, but in D1 it works great.I would take it to a different dealer and see what they say, there is something for sure wrong with your Rubi.
