Whatever you do don't go on Capt nemo's advice alone! It sounds like you want a lighter, quick, agile sport quad and Polaris has yet to make one..As far as keeping up with a 400 scrambler, it shouldn't be hard when his belt starts slipping after he runs through a mud puddle!!

1st, I'll say I have to agree with letitsnow about the 400EX, enough said.

As for 300EX and Warrior, basicaly the EX handles better than the Warrior in stock form and has a shorter wheelbase for zig-zaggin through tight places, that's all.

The Warrior has more power, speed and wheelbase. As for the choice between them? It really depends on what you feel comfortable on. I own a Warrior and like it. I'd never trade it for a 300EX even if it was stock. Reason? It fits my size better, plain out has more power, resonds better to mods, has the wheelbase to handle the extra power and to say out of your face on hills while putting power to the ground, and it would cost a lot more to mod up the EX to compete with the Warrior's power than it costs to make the Warrior handle just as well as the EX. Not to mention modding up an engine and killing reliability.

For the hilly terrain I ride, the Warrior chassis works a lot better and the extra power is nice too. I also prefer the choke and reverse set up on the Warrior.

I'm trying to be as un-biased as possible, and I won't tear the 300EX down or say it's junk. All the quads on the market have positives and negatives to different people and their all good at some things and bad at others. The best for you is the best one...bottom line.

I have rode a many of trail on the 250X, which happens to be the same chassis as the 300EX. I just didn't like it going up steep hills. It took a lot to keep the front down. Why did I get to ride the 250X? Because the owner liked it enough to keep it. But when I stayed over to ride with him, I always ended up on the 250X eating his dust trailing him on his Warrior.

As for the Scrambler 400 2x4, it kills both of these mentioned. It is a lot heavier. But, weight don't matter that much here. Also, new springs do wonders for the front struts. You can take that for what it's worth or ignore it if you want. But when you are eating a 400's dust on a 300EX, Warrior or a 400EX for that matter, YOU CAN'T SAY I DID'T TELL YOU SO!!

I've done a little research on HP ratings for the 300EX and Warrior. 300EX=16.9, Warrior=17.7, these are from stock machines. Less than 1hp for a machine that has 66 more cc's displacement. So why do some people say (Duster) that it would cost so much more to mod a 300EX to make it comparable in power to a Warrior than it would to make a Warrior handle like a 300EX? If I put $500 into my motor ie: cam, hi compression piston, springs and valves, and you put $500 into your suspension, and you won't get much for $500, what do you think the end product would be. I'll tell you what you would get, a screaming 300EX with a great suspension, and a stock Warrior engine with a better suspension than stock. And I probably don't have to go radical on the cam and lose reliability. The Warrior does not have gobs of power as you stated, it only has a slight edge. Nuff said!!!

Its not really the horsepower difference, its the torque.

The formula for finding torque is (HPx5252)/rpm. HP does have a direct relationship to torque produced. If there's less than 1HP difference the torque values can't be much different as well. They are both good bikes, both have lots of low end, but I can't sit here and read someone say one has so much more than the other, it's just not true.

The ONLY stock honda in the whole forum. Why not add $2000 worth of goods to make it as good as Polaris?

I purchased a 400ex after having owned a 300ex I liked my 300ex in tight trail better bu the 400ex is better at everythin else/ As far as the warrior they steer very heavy. Put a piston, midrange cam, exhaust, modified revlimiter, and 400ex carb on the 300 and it will run circles around the warrior. Four valve engines flow better than two valve engines so mild cam differnces mak a huge diffrence without affecting driveability. Or just get a 330 kit from FST

Hondas 4-ever

I say go with the Honda. My husband used to have an 89 Warrior that was way more trouble than it's worth. He bought an 00 400EX and is in love. When I pay off my Honda Recon, I'm investing in the 300. Owning 2 Hondas now, we are quite impressed with the lack of problems we have with them. Another riding buddy of ours has a 99 Warrior; he's had engine problems already. You should check the March issue of Four Wheel ATV action...they do a test of a Warrior, Blaster, Mojave, and 300EX. The red wins the shootout. Good luck on your choice.

Mike300EX-99,

Guys like you really make me laugh. You come in here with all these ratings and formulas for torque>(HPx5252)/RPM=FT. LBS. of torque.<

I guess you just expect everyone to be afraid to say anything if you make yourself look smart. But, I won't insult your intellegence as you have mine and everyone else's. I'll accept your formula and say nothing else. Reason? Since I know for a fact that a stock Warrior makes 20-21 FT. LBS of torque at the rear wheels at 6,000 RPM, according to your formula the Warrior has 24 HP. I'll take that!!Do the math. Yes I'm smart enough to do the equation backwards. No, I won't argue if you want to give the Warrior more HP!!

Furthermore, I have the pleasure of riding with 28 other sport quad riders in our group (rarely all together at once). Before I get into numbers, I just want to say one of us has more than one sport quad (one guy has a Warrior and a 250X)and I'm including myself. Out of 30 quads, 12 Warriors, 5 Mojaves, 3 Banshees, 2 400EX's, 1 440EX, 1 400L, 1 250X, 1 Blaster, 1 tricked Lakota, and 3 300EX's.

In '98 there were 17 of us on 300EX's. 7 got Warriors, 3 got Mojaves, 1 got a 400L, 3 got 400EX's and one of those did the 440 kit. So, that leaves 3. Some because of power and some because of terrain. Seems like a trend to me!!??

Oh and for icing on the cake, about what we had words on conserning mods,...check the post in here, "300EX and Warrior race". I think you will find it informative, truthful, backing up my statements and strait from an honest 300EX owner/rider.

Just because you love your 300EX doesn't mean you have to sell everyone on it. Unless of course Honda is paying you commissions!!
