"excellent handling and mediocre power".... seems that's what I've been complaining about with the last two posts...

Kinda funny i feel like im in grade school.LOL.Anyway............Just because 2 machines have the same horsepower doesnt mean one is not faster than the other. The R is lighter than the X by what ....30-40 Pounds???Ive owned a Stock 88 R and a Stock 99 400EX and the R in my opinion was faster. Not by a bunch though ill give you that. Its all good!!!! late, zubbeyboy

You live in "Butte" Montana! There, now we're back in grammar school! lol

Yeah, the R is lighter. It's close. I've been digging through my old DW's for the past 3 nights. Didn't they re-print the classic shootout between the Kawi, Honda, and Suzuki awhile back? like right around the time the 99 EX came out? I know they had all the drag times and stuff there.

I think it's just funny. I mean, think about it. What was an R brand new in '89, $3500-$3600?? Your lucky to get one that runs and doesn't have a cracked frame for that now. People pay it though. But with all the new 4 strokes coming out, that HAS to change. I mean Kelly Blue Book lists the retail value of a 1989 R in excellent condition at $3570! A 1999 400ex......$3,920. And a new 1999 400ex retailed for, $5,400 back then??? I really think if more companies release new hi-performance machines, we'll see the fall of the 250R. I think Honda can stop carrying OEM parts for a model after 20 years. I might be talking out my **** on that one, but I'm 90% sure they don't have too. I think then we might see the R's value start to decline. JMO.

You really shouldn't place that must trust in magazines, especially DW. If you believe what they say, the z400 is the best bike ever made, for racing, hiking, canoeing, you name it the z400 is the best at it.

Remeber when the Raptor was the best.

The ATC 250R would have had the same HP figures, not sure about the weight but obviously alot lighter than the 329 pound figure for the quad.
