what size tires do u have on the rear of the 416? (18-20-22) how was the 14/39 and the 15/36 differant? what would be the best gearing for 300 ft drag with 20 in rear tires? i hear of some running 16/36 also. i ordered a 36 and i will try the 15 and the 16 with it. curious about the 14/39 and the 15/36 gearing. what gear do u take off in, 2nd?

It is not true that you can't bore a 440 again. I am not postitive about the amount of bores or resleeving it, but if you burn up your 440 you don't have to buy a new cyl. Strokers are cool, but I have seen faster 440's than stroked motors. I know sparks has fast 465's and I am not saying that strokers can't be made fast, but how much do you think that 4SW sparks 465 cost? A sh!# LOAD. New cranks are spendy, they are really torquey. My experience is that you can build a 440 with high comp. long duration, port/polish, carrillo rod, a little welding/machining in the combustion chamber to make the proper quench, deck the head, big valves, ti springs, hard rockers, and you will make just about 50hp. I don't believe in dyno's (I know more than a few people who blew motors on a dyno, I would be so pissed if I blew mine anywhere besides riding it), but that is about what we figure. You can do this for around 2grr. I almost got a 416, I rode one that ran great, if I wasn't 225 lbs, thats what I would have got. All the above, but just a 416 bore. Good luck, ,when my builder calls me back I will post what the boring info is about 440. Some ne else probably knows.

I'm having mine done right now. After spending time on the phone with numerous engine builders, here is what I am adding: JE 10-8.1 piston. Hotcams Stage II cam. Heavy duty valve springs w/titanium retainers, Viton valve seals, heavy duty cam chain, and heavy duty clutch springs. I'm also having it ported and polished while it's apart.

I have never heard anything negative as far as 416s go. I know some of the "heavy duty" components aren't needed, I just figured I would add them now for a little preventive maintanence.

i have the same set up, except with mild porting. if i was to do it again, i would go with a 426, Ross or JE 11:1 piston. same cam, have a race porting job done while the heads are off, that way you can add a FCR 39 carb later. i sent the cylinder and head off then i assembled it, a manual helps too! i enjoyed getting my hands dirty looking at the final product !
