Clean 250R - price ?
#1
I've been a Yam owner for years - always enjoyed them. I've also felt that the 250R was the best out-of-the-box quad ever built. I found a clean one (picture looks bone stock and still has orig gold rims) for sale, here's the ad:
1986 fourtrax 250R
One owner, no scratches, dings or dents, NEVER WRECKED, like new, six pac rack, flag, cooler, pipe, paddles and razors, and dirt tires. $3,750
Is that a good price ? Seems high??...Also, is there any particular model year I should avoid - or - is there a more desirable year ?
Thanks -
PS - Dont tell the Yam guys I'm shoppin for a Honda

That is a little high but not too bad.88-89 is the best R.I have seen some 88-89 's for sale on E Bay for around 4K.Id say if you offered him $3500 you would make a good deal.If you really want it i wouldnt feel too bad spending $3750 but id look around a little for a 88-89. late, zubbeyboy

Look around more. Here in oregon you can get an 86 for 2k where as an 88-89 goes for atleast 3.5k. try to get an 88-89 model. They ride a little better. Shortened swingarm and tranny changes i think are the only real diferences but i do know 88-89 is most diserable. To me the price sounds about 1k to high. maybe it is just in my area.

Okay, here's the deal- you live in Arizona so you probably only have two types of riding; dunes and plain ol' desert. The '86 would probably be the best year for you to buy because it has a steel swingarm, verses an aluminum unit in the later years, this would probably be good for you because of the extra strength. Also, the frames are a little heavier and stronger- another plus for the harsh desert conditions. And then their is the dunes. The motor has a shorter rod making it rev a little faster than the later years plus their is no bridge in the exhaust port which means better flow; this is good for the dunes and wide open desert. And last but not least, the swingarm is a bit longer as well as stronger, this would help out when riding the steap dune faces. $3750 is not a bad price, but I would try to get it to $3500 also. But in your area, I'd just be hoping that it wasn't already gone! Hope I helped.

Boogerbub,
Hey - thanks for the info - you hit it right on the head as far as my requirements ! I'm gonna call the seller and chat about the bikes history and then maybe make him an offer. If I find a clean one I want to set it up for novice dez racing/duning - could be a fun project.

Hate to here it was sold, but in your area I'm not suprized to hear that it went so fast. Keep looking though, I think that everyone should own an R at least once in their life. They truely are amazing machines.
