Sorry Guys, Dumb question. Should the tail light on my new 400EX come on when I step on the brake(like a car) or should it just come on when I turn on the headlights...

I don't think any of the Honda's come with Brakelights. Maybe the newer models like Rubicon or Rincon do, but the 400ex doesn't.

on i site i go to for the rancher at it says "Combination tail- and brakelight. "
On the one for the 400ex it says nothing about the lights at all.

 

You guys have to be kidding, right? Its not a dumb question but I am amazed you people dont know the answer to this. Yes. The answer is yes it is a brake light. Turn the key on then stand behind it and have someone squeeze the brake. If it gets brighter than its working. You guys who dont think you have brake lights, try the same thing, you might be amazed.

 

have a 02 rubicon - brake light does not function (or if it does, it's VERY faint)

 

i have never rode a 400ex or can i say that i have even seen one out on trails.

 

The taillight on the 400 is just a tail light. It is a single element bulb. The light will come on when the headlight are turned on only. The Suz and the Raptor have brake light but the 400ex does not. You can make it a true taillight with a brake light,but you would have to add some wires and a brake switch on the pedal and the front brake lever.
Honda would never do this to the 400ex. That would break with the tradition of the new model each year have new and improved new stickers only.

 

The ONLY Honda that has a tail light that works like a cars tail light ,and that is get brighter when you apply the brake is the Rincon.

 

OK,OK,OK, I am the dumb one. I ride with a guy who has a 400ex and he told me today that he installed a brake light on his because he rides in the desert allot with a big group and the group persuaded him to install it so at night they can see him stoping. When I am behind him I see his brake light and just assumed mine was the same way. So I am sorry for my remark and I hope I didnt offend any one.

Its better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are smart than to open you mouth and prove your not!!

 

The taillight on a 400ex is just a tail light. It is not wired to the brakes at all.
