Has anyone tried to put lights on a quad or bike that does not have power? How do I do this? I have heard of external magnitoes, is this what I need, and are they universal, will one fit on a 90? I can find room for a batt. and I know how to do the wiring, I just don't want to have to recharge the batt. all the time.

I've been round and round with this one too and finally found a simple solution. I wanted to add a headlight to our TRX90 just so I could see it better and quicker in the woods with a quick backwards glance or a look in my mirrors. We always ride with my son on the TRX in the saddle of the group but most times I can see the last bike in line before my son's TRX. We all always run with lights on.
Didn't want the weight of a battery, thought about one of those bicycle generators but it would just not last. Finally found a small rechargable flashlight at Pepboys. The end of the light is made to plug into an aux (cigarette lighter) outlet, which is how it recharges. I made a PVC brace that slips into the plugs that seal the bolt holes on the handlebar cowling. Just slip the light into the PVC and turn it on. I keep it in place with a wrap of 1/8" bungee cord. Everything is painted black and looks like it belongs there. The light burns bright enough to make it easy to spot and will last for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Right now, I've got two lights but at only $3 each I'll probably pick up a couple more. I can recharge them in my aux outlet as we go down the trail.
It's not a perfect solution - It doesn't throw enough light for night rides - but is solves out problem of daytime visibility and I didn't have to drill any holes in the plastic to mount it. I've got a total of $8 invested in this.

I just wanted to say that I think it is crazy that they don't install lights on childrens quads. If only for safety reasons. You would think with all of the safety concerns for adults and safety classes that lights would be required by law for children. What if a child is riding around a yard and the parents looks away for a moment? The child drives out in the street and a car doesn't see the child. How many children today don't know enough to get off the road when a car comes? What if something fails on the quad allowing it to drive into harms way? If I was to buy an atv for my children, I would require that the atv have a light on the sides, front and back. (Even if the lights were just bright orange or red.) There are some kids atv's that you can purchase lights for or have them on already. When I am ready to purchase a quad for my children. The safety of my children will win out over the reliability of the atv.
Jack400- Sorry I could not help with your question.
