What to do...250x or 300ex?
#1
Now, i currently have 2,300.
I am having a hard time finding a 250x in good shape. I looked at one for 2,100(i was worth maybe 1,800 in its current shape)
I just advertised my XR100 in the paper for 1,000 that will give me 3,300. And by then end of the summer, after car insurance and other things i will of made around another 1,000.
Should i wait, buy a newer used 300ex? Or Buy a beat up 250x but good engine, frame, axles, shocks ect. And put the 2,000 in mods?
new plastic, bars, and seat...and still have 1,500 for engine mods. That would be one kick *** 250x!
My thoughts on 300ex:
Pro: less chance of problems, and just newer.
Cons: No mods, more money, and i'd have to wait all summer.
250x:
Pro: lots of mods, can get now.
Cons: More chance of problems, older, more chance of being ridden hard.
What do you think? to wait or not to wait!

Think long term here, dude. Whatever you buy you will probably have for several years. The 300's are still in good supply and you should be able to find one in great shape that hasn't been ragged out. And besides, you are starting with a bigger motor and can go up from there. Don't fall for the 'adult ridden' machine that is being sold by a 21 y.o. kid with a hot rod ride in the drive. Shop smart and don't jump at the first thing that shows. Good luck

I have a 88 250X and have had curtis sparks do the engine(porting and stroking, big bore)to 425cc. if you want four stroke pwer in a small package, this is the way to go.if you go to another engine you will lose reverse.i have installed works shocks, durablue axle,250r a-arms,and i ride with guys that have 400ex,250r and can smoke the 400,but have a little problem with the "R"s after they get twisted up in the Rpm's and gears but i get them for about 100 yards.I think that buying a used one in good shape is the way to go ,if you have the time and money to make it better suited to what riding style that you like.I love my 250x,i ride it more than my 250r.so the big question is wether to but used or to buy new ,well that is up to you.you will have a better machine if you build it to suit you.
