350X conversion

I have a '96 300EX that I put a 350X motor in and was wondering if this is becoming popular with 300EX riders who race to compete with the 400EX's. And also, if you have done this did you buy your exhaust or make it? I made mine but it's pretty crude and was wondering if anyone knows of a company making this exhaust for the 350X conversion to 300EX frame?

Being a 350X owner as well as a 400EX owner, unless modified, it will take some pretty good mods for a TRX350EX to outrun a stock 400EX. The original 350X engine put out around 21 or 22 hp at the rear wheels, whereas the 400EX puts down about 27 hp. You should be able to easily put Warriors in their place though...
So, while not being slow, it won't outrun a 400EX. Should provide a good improvement over the 300EX engine though.
The 350X seemed to have more down low bottom end than the 400EX, it definitely does not have as much top though. The 6 speed tranny is nice too. The 350X engine does not have as much potential as the 400 as far as mods go either. Don't expect miracles, but it should be a very nice swap.

I have a bike with this combo, I think it has plenty of potential. There are plenty of mods to be made.It can be made to run with the 400EX, BUT
you won't have the ride or handling. I can keep up
with a 400ex in the woods but not on the stretch.
Powroll makes an exhaust for about $350. I hadn't heard about the problem of the muffler falling off.
I put a 10.25 Wiseco in mine,it made a difference
Harder to kick though.

I bought a spare 350X engine from a local Vo-tech for $200. It apparently was one Honda donated to the Vo-tech for the small engine classes after they were forced by the govt to buy back all dealer stock of 3-wheelers back in the late '80s.
This particular engine was held back by the instructor and not torn apart by students, was run for a short time. Been in storage at my place ever since... Sorry, not interested in selling it though
